I have returned to modelling for the first time as an adult (injury enforced, no sports for a while). I am starting with the Tamiya Challenger 1 1/35 and am asking if anyone knows where I can get hold of british army ration packs as accessories to put in the tank stowage bins. I can find bergens, ammo etc but only US ration packs. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum firstly Stuart.

There seems to be plenty of US stuff but I can't see any British on FOG Models . May be some other member can help .

Welcome to the forum, Stuart.
It seems that modern BA ration packs are not on the market. I found modern Australian and Japanese ration boxes (see here LINK ), British Army WW2 rations, but nothing more.

Waiting for some pics of your Challenger.

Andrea

Hi, and welcome. There was someone selling 3D printed stuff at the I{MS show in Lincoln yesterday, but I didn't take much notice at the time! You could ask the secretary of the local IPMS branch if he has their details https://ipmsuk.org/directory/lincoln/

Welcome to the forum, Stuart,
If the ration packs are packed in cardboard carton boxes then getting images of the ration packs, doing up the artwork and printing them on scaled carton texture paper might work...if non is available after market.

Cheers,
Richard

Hello Stuart,
UK meal packs.... the only way I found to obtain them is first to google 'UK military ration packs/boxes' then I picked the best images I could find and save them to the desktop. Then with an imaging program like early photoshop which is now available as a cheap download on evilbay and using the dimensions of the US MRE boxes I worked up an 'exploded' image of the box allowing about half a mm for the folds. Colouring can be added and then the text, and then all printed out. you may have to adjust the size but you will get there.
I am just going to check through my files and see if I saved my work, and will get back to you later 1/2 hour.
Mike.

Hello Stuart,
How soon do you need these ration boxes, I have had a look but cannot find the file so as I need more for a future build and the current one I will get working on a new set and send you a copy to print out.
Mike.

Mine on a late Chieftain.
Mike, your explanation is so much better than mine and a picture to boot too. :thumb2:

Cheers,

no particular rush, still finishing off the base model and then need time to paint - using an airbrush for the first time so will be taking things slowly. Then weathering etc, so no immediate rush. any help would be much appreciated

model complete save for the commander, aerials, tracks etc which will be done after painting. Pleased to see that I have not really lost my modelling skills but now is the real challenge, as I have never done proper painting or weathering, so I am now moving into new territory. Although I will be using a spray can undercoat, I intend to try airbrushing for the first time as well, so even more challenges ahead. But looking forward to it! Any ideas how to easily upload images - normal upload processes don't work so not sure how I can upload the images for you all to see. Will keep trying

quick question for anyone who has built a Tamiya Challenger 1 1/35 desert version. I have built the model in three parts - lower hull, top hull and turret. However, with the additional front armour on the upper hull, it is a real struggle to join the two lower halves. If I remove the black rubber grommets from inside, it becomes almost possible, but there is tension and I am not convinced glue will hold. it is the angle of the front armour which prevents it from just slotting nicely into place. Removing that front armour now will be a nightmare - any suggestions?

I built this 5 years ago and had to go back to look at my thread. Not going to be much help unfortunately, I'd painted the lower hull and inside of the side armour, then attached the upper hull. I'd then masked the lower part when I painted the top part.

To up load photographs and to actively take part in the whole forum, you will need to become a supporter. I believe there is a message that pops up on screen when you try to post as non-supporting member.
Its a kind of look around and see if you like it. I think every one here will agree its money well spent. The extra discount you get at the Scale Models Shop more than coveres the annual fee.
