OOOOPs

Saw that too. News like this usually takes a day or two before the Commonwealth came to be.

Cheers,
Richard

Spotted the same Vulcan on a trip to a National Trust property near Wellesbourne a few years back

The Vulcan is confined to Wellesbourne, as it isn't actually airworthy ( or can't be insured as airworthy ), all it does is start it's engines & do fast taxying down the runway. It does seem a bit pointless to me, and this sort of accident could potentially destroy what is now a museum piece - if it could fly, OK, but just taxying up & down a runway seems a rather ignominious fate......................

The monies received from taking passengers on those 'taxi runs' helps keep it in a decent condition. Don't slate people off for wanting to keep things running. Other places do it as well.

Besides. At least members of the public can say they've been in a (insert aircraft) when it went full chat down the runway for X seconds :)

There's a lot of aircraft that cannot fly but are still operational and do "fast taxi" runs. I recall one collection being under threat a while back, in fact just read that it was the Bruntingthorpe collection, I believe the Buccaneer moved to Kemble. For a lot of people it's keeping history "alive", can you imagine never hearing the roar of a Typhoon?

That could have been seriously nasty, lucky it was stopped where it was

I saw it on the news. It could have been a lot worse. They'll be a few red faces around.
