After I'd finished my laser-cut Tower bridge, Wotan's BookNook railway station prompted me to have a look at the range of Book Nook kits available, and this caught my eye. Took a couple of weeks to arrive, during which I received the usual AI-generated messages about the shipping progress, e.g. "Your parcel is now with the shipping agent in Milwaukee", followed by "Your parcel has reached Customs in Wisconsin", etc., then it turned up out of the blue. A surprisingly heavy package, 1175 grams, and seems to contain everything you'd expect from the picture.

Instructions are written with a Chinese accent! Parts are a mixture of laser-cut plywood, MDF, and die-cut printed paper. There are also 3 tubes of something - one is labelled "Green Colour", which is self-explanatory, one is "White Latex", but I don't know if that's paint or glue, and the orange 30ml tube has no English at all. Maybe Miko can help?

With a bit of luck I'll make a start tomorrow.

I've seen these, I was tempted by one showing a Kyoto street scene

Looking forward to seeing your progress

Can you help with translating the characters on the tubes please? I don't know if the white latex is glue or paint, and there's nothing I can understand on the orange tube. TIA.

WOW! They have certainly thought of everything. Loads to do but should build up with amazing detail. Looking forward to seeing how this comes together.

Pete, looks rather interesting. Hope you get a satisfactory translation for the tubes. I can't tell if that White Latex is glue or paint either. I tried using my phone translate function, but I suspect the bit that needs translation is the bottom text where the light reflection is. Hope Miko can help you.

I did get the back of the orange tube though, not sure how accurate it is:

Good luck!

In for the build Pete. My daughter is Harry Potter mad so might have to get this and build for her.

Can you provide a link to where you ordered from?

Hope Miko can help you.
Good luck!

I can get by in Japanese, reading kit instructions etc, although Japanese 'kanji' are similar to Chinese characters they aren't exactly alike

I had the same problem as you, the photos aren't clear enough to read with a translator

The orange tube seems to be pva glue, the green tube seems to be some sort of pigment, paint I suppose and the other as the tube reads 'white latex', but what that's for I'm uncertain

Thanks Miko, the green tube is paint. Looking at build videos on Youtube it looks as if the white latex is for joining parts that aren't wood or paper, but I've aked my daughter to forward photos to her friend in Hong Kong.

Good luck with this, as I said I had great pleasure building the two that I have done so far. One little tip I would suggest is to buy a green and a brown felt tipped pen to use to cover any exposed wooden edges. These work very well and are much easier than trying to use paint.

Looking forward to your progress.

I've realized I'm overthinking this - it doesn't matter what is in those tubes, I have PVA and CA so I don't need anything else.

Reply from my daughter's Chinese friend: Both tubes are glue.

The blue one is suitable for paper, cotton and couldn’t read the third thing because it is blurred. It dries in 30 minutes and then cured in 24 hours.

The orange tubes is suitable for just about everything paper, cloth, metal, plastic etc. It dries in 10 minutes and cures overnight.

Both will dry without leaving ?? Not quite sure of the translation here but seems to be without residue i.e. dries clear

So I squeezed a little out of each tube; the blue tube looks like PVA, the orange tube is clear slightly rubbery stuff, a bit like UHU. I assume the PVA is for the wooden parts, the other for everything else.

Great detective work Pete, now I'm looking forward to the build. A magic wand shop, why not.

I haven't been doing much with this as my tremor seems to have got worse, but I've been working my way slowly through the instruction sheet, or "Notice of Assemble" as they call it! The first steps are all about making stuff to go on the shelves. This is what I've done so far: one magic wand, two spell bottles, a map, two books, newspapers, a broom and various letters and postcards.

Unfortunately some of the die-cut pieces are a bit out of register with the printing, but I don't think it'll be too noticeable when the shop in finished. It's all a bit strange to me, not being a Harry Potter fan - I think I saw most of the first film, but a long time ago.
More tomorrow with a bit of luck.

The latex glue in these kits is good stuff, It stick just about anything, Holds well after a short time and can (when) if you stick a part the wrong way around, remove them again with minimal force. (wooden parts that is. Card parts and you are budgerigared).

Agree wholeheartedly with that Ian. If you could get it in big containers my resin W would languish unused and unloved…..

There will now be a slight hiatus - some of the small parts seem to be missing. I've emailed the supplier.

It looks as if there's a package of small parts missing from my kit. The supplier has promised to organise a replacement pack. Don't know how long that will take!

Still no sign of the replacements, and the tracking data they've provided is no help. "Your package is waiting to be picked up by the carrier." for 2 1/2 weeks now.😒😒
