Richard's Academy/Airfix Hellcat for Simon

Thank you Steven, just skimming the weathering at the moment...still some wash and grime plus rust spots since it's exposed to the elements with the open turret.

Cheers,
Richard

Hi, I'm back with a little more done adding the stowage. I have yet to tie them down with string.

H78.jpg

The stowage is a mixture of kit parts and home made from foil and tissue with wire ties.

H79.jpg

Some of the stowage were held down with two part putty shaped to look like tarpaulin covered stowage.

The next would be the gun mantlet water proofing cover.

Thanks Scottie, Graeme, Tim, Jim and Lee for the comments on the baggage...the crew are quite the scruffy lot aren't they.

I just slapped on some putty for the mantlet cover and waiting for it to cure to correct some areas with the burr and sanding.

H83.jpg

I think the ratio for the resin and hardener wasn't quite correct so there are seam cracks that I will burr down and fill. Easy to rectify.

Will make corrections tonight.

Richard

Hi Richard
The mantle cover looks good. Is it solid putty or is it covering something giving a rough shape? I have seen tissue soaked in PVA used for mantle covers but this looks a really nice, natural shape.

Thanks guys, Jim the cover is flattened putty draped over the mantlet and teased with a wet tooth pick. I used to do it with tissue before.

Okay, I've tidied up the mantlet cover by rubbing the the cracks down and producing new folds.

H88.jpg

Still needs a further rub down with Scotchbrite and finer grit sandpaper.

Hellcats always look nice at this angle when the turret is traversed to the sides...
