I've lost my front canopy. Something tells me I shouldn't finish this...every time I fix something another part gets lost even when they're put into covered holders.
Anyway can't scratch it so will need a replacement. The other spare unarmoured canopy was deformed from lack of injection pressure.
I'll proceed with the primer and preshading without it.

I know but the good news is a friend has given me his Hasegawa kit so perhaps I can try to fit it's canopy onto mine. The irony is that it's a MkIIc which has all the bells and whistles which I had to modify on my MkI.

Basically this is how I mask my canopies if anyone is asking...

I simply cut the overlaps with a new sharp blade as the tape becomes the guide.

I have decided to scratch the front canopy having armed with a reference canopy from the Hasegawa kit my friend gave me.
I started by shaping the top curved section from a plastic alligator clip...example below...

​And the front and side panels from the sheet of transparency. I hope this experiment will work. Meanwhile I have removed the outer Hispanos and refilled the wing edge to set them further apart...it's quite a distance apart if you notice...

Hi,
After filling up the hole I fixed the outboard Hispanos on...
Then I added exhaust deflectors using thin plastic strip on both sides. This particular aircraft has it and not all were modified with it. I don't know if it was a standard fixture in later models.
I think loosing the front canopy as I noticed the side attachments weren't curved as in the Amar kit reference I was following. So I have added some plastic strip and will carve and clean it up for the canopy I'm making.

TBH Jim I brought this all onto myself by trying to change the version or Mk. As a kit on its own it's pretty nicely engineered to come together easily. My procrastination has lost me some near impossible parts to replace but its getting there, how accurate it is I leave it to your good selves to judge. It's a learning curve and challenge that will prevail...the bin is put into the next room. Thank you for your comments. The build process seems daunting that many have not been able to comment and probably think I'm crazy.

Thanks Paul and to leviate the frustration I turn to humouring myself like here...while working on the canopy I did a Princess Leia with rolled blu tac to hold the main canopy to help with adjustments to the panels of the front canopy...

Balls literally sweating when aligning the clear panels just now. It all boils down to polishing the rounded shape to get it clear before attaching it to the top. Haven't taken any pictures yet, Neil.

Hi guys,
Yay!! I managed to mate the curved top that I carved to the three panels for the front canopy. Just waiting for the glue to cure then I'll cut and sand off the protruding edge, polish and then drop future over it and draw the excess with tissue. The joints are where the frame panel is and will be covered with paint after masking.
Further more I'm adding a rectangular rear view mirror to the top for this version.
​​​​​Still looking rough with dust and all but mission accomplished after the cut and sanding. Now to the polishing and dipping.

I was drenched with sweat doing this. Let's hope the polishing gets rid of most of the scratches to make it at least decent looking.
