Richards Hurricane Airfix 1/72 GB build

Hope it heals well Richard. I sliced the top of a finger to the bone with a power planer aa few years ago, and it grew back but was very sensitive for about a year.

Ouch! That sounds painful Pete.

Ouch ! Been there done that richard . Thirty odd years ago took the top 3/4 inch off the same finger and went halfway through the pinkie . They flipped the top of the pinkie and sewed it back but the end of the third finger disappeared up the extractor , never to be seen again!
hopefully youll be back in action soon , speedy recovery and stay out of the kitchen in the mean time.

Wow, another painful experience. We're starting to sound like Mel Gibson in Leathal Weapon exchanging fight wounds with what's her name?
Had enough of potatoes so the weapon is put away.

Quite a potatoe slicer horror story Richard! Hope it will heal soon, thankfully those people at the hospital keep on working during the holidays 🙏 Take care!

I was expecting a full house at the emergency ward seeing that it was the eve of a holiday from drunk driving accidents. Thanks Steven.

Wabble that was not clever lol. I hate those things I have one in the house nut won't use it.

You're right about that, I only had just nicked myself in the thumb minutes earlier and got my daughter to plaster it...duh.

Strangely enough, it wasn't painful at all - at the time. The first thing I noticed was a vibrating sensation as the planer blades started hitting the bone... It was painful for the next few days though.

Hi all painting has started obviously after mummifying the Hurricane...

Then I started with spraying black for the front canopy frame...

The remainder black paint went into spraying the air scoop vents which was then sprayed with the RAF interior grey green on the exposed outer edges...

Will try later to post the rest of the images as internet is slow.

This shows that I sometimes prefer painting with parts still attached to the sprue. Most of it won't be seen and the clear parts would distort the view anyway. More later.

Hi all, the joys of masking is prevalent when spray painting as is evident in these next images...
IMG_20250101_135416.jpg IMG_20250101_135250.jpg After scratching the prop spinner I decided to use the extra spinner from the Hasegawa kit as it has a more bulbeous look. Mine was too sharp.

After a coat of Gunze Mr Surfacer 1000 primer the lines of the MkIIc can be seen...I think my chin scoop is a bit pronounced, might think of cutting it back a little and curved upwards more...
IMG_20250102_021415.jpg IMG_20250102_021334.jpg The dark patches were just black sprayed earlier to see what it looked like with some cordite stains from the guns and shell chutes. The opening for the shell chutes ought to be larger but the aircraft will be glued down to the base so won't be seen. The drop tanks would make it even more difficult to see when in place.

Yes spraying paint, hours of masking and then a few pulls on the trigger 🫡... Looks like you also found a way to recreate 'PUR foam insulation' in 1/72. 👍
Have fun

You said it Steve, just for a few squirts after hours of masking. What's PUR foam insulation btw?

It's those spraycans that produce expansion foam, you spray it in a cavity to insulate. Afterwards it sort of looks like your masking material 👍
The model looks great in primer btw, cheers

Yes I've seen that compound Steven and it looks just like what you said kind of yellowish cloud plumes when cured and slightly stiffer than florists foam. For this accidental effect I used toilet roll tissue and dabbed with a brush soaked in water. For a stronger texture you can prod it with a sharp tweezer while still wet.

Ouch Richard. I have been in a similar situation when I got caught up in a radio controlled aircraft prop. Had two fingers strapped up and they healed nicely.

Looks good Richard. Always nice to see some paint go on.

Thanks Jim, actually it's a relief that painting has started on the Hurricane. So many things have happened along the way I thought I had better finish it once and for all.
