Hi, I hope I'm not too late as I had to finish my competition diorama before continuing this commissioned build. Good thing there was no deadline attached to it so I could fit it in this schedule. At first I didn't bother taking shots of the sprue as Tony had the same build but on reading the rules I had to so forgive the missing parts having started at the beginning of the GB and stopping for the diorama. Let's start with the formalities with the box shot...

This was where I left off painting the interior and applying a soft wash.
After seeing Tony's build I need to paint the silver areas and show a simple trick to hide over paint marks by adding dark pin washes after.
That's it for now.

Hi,
I was given this kit of the MkI but was commissioned to paint it up following a magazine cover and that plane was a MkIIc with hispano cannons and a tropical chin air scoop. So I thought I'd do a little modification even if it isn't that accurate because I couldn't leave it at that.
First the chin air scoop...
I did a trace of the chin and sketched the scoop. Then I cut a spine using a thick piece of plasticard and used the existing part for the tip.
Will add the frame and putty it into shape after I have joined the fuselage halves. I see a lot of sanding ahead.

Hi, found time today to paint up the cockpit interior before closing it up. Have yet to fit simple seatbelts with masking tape and wire.

All closed up and fitted the chin extension spine. I'll be adding the ribs later...

There are some gaps to fill in the wing roots and tail...

It may look like that Paul but it still gives me the shivers attempting these scratches every time. It's always never a repeat so it's a new plan of approach and figuring out the best method.

Today I fixed rough cuts of plastic card for ribbing, about five in a row and snipped the access off and filed to shape. These will act as guides for the putty that I'll be inserting in the gaps and sculpting. Similar to planking ship hulls but with putty instead.

The profile looks about just right...

Roughly an hour's work.
Looking at the sprue I noticed that not only do I have to lengthen the spinner, the prop blades need to be broadened as well...one thing leads to another and I was hoping this would be a quick modification. I have a plan for both.

Great start richard , i think it's a fantastic little kit . Excellent scratching going on here , lengthening the spinner is going to be a tricky one , and ive also read that the prop blades are a bit skinny but I left mine . Cheers tony

Thanks and yes Tony, it's a fine kit but only wished it was a MkII. Anyways I've puttied the chin scoop but have sanded it a little too rounded at the edges. From references it is a little boxy with more straight sides. The spinner was not that difficult to modify...

I will re-putty the edges.

The MkI didn't have the oil splatter plate after the prop spinner so I made that with thin plastic card.

Now for the prop challenge...

Thanks Scottie, at this scale I won't bother modifying the exhausts...I'd be crazy to do it. The rest is doable including the prop blades.

I have commenced with the prop modification gluing plastic strip to support the putty that will be spread on...

This is the back. I will draw the shape and cut off the excess then spread the putty and sand when cured.

Today I've cut to shape the prop blade extensions and dry fitted it to the spinner. Looks close enough so will go ahead with the puttying...

Left it a little broad to take up any excessive sanding.

And there is a kit of the MkIIc in that scale. Had no choice as I was given the MkI kit to work on.

That's what I meant. I think there are 10 kits of it in 1/72!

Still, I respect you for doing that. I suspect this will be better than what most people would achieve with the "right" kit.

Thank you both Andreas and Jim, I hope your confidence in my ability turns out something respectable.:smiling6: As it is most of it is eyeballing from references and guess measurements. I just couldn't leave a MkI as the owner showed me his reference of a MkIIc in the camo that he liked so I thought of torturing myself.:smiling5:

So far the prop looks okay after rough sanding and will get a final fine grit sanding...

Worked on the wing tip nav lights as well...

Did the usual drilling and filling the hole for the bulbs with red and green paint and the wing tips in silver before gluing it on.

Polishing it soon.
