Morning guys. :)

I got the main components glued together this weekend and the few decals applied, I've just left some of the smaller stuff off (aerials, mirrors, etc) which will be weathered separately and added at the end. The doors are just pushed on for now, I'm going to display it with them open but with them temporarily fitted I can weather the whole thing together, and protect the interior.

I found a bit of an issue, something somewhere is not fitted correctly which has resulted in the right side of the bonnet being slightly too far forward. No doubt this is something I cocked up during the build stage and at this point there is not a lot I can do about it. I'm planning on having the bonnet open for display anyway, and if it is closed and someone notices, we'll just say it crashed into a camel. :)

So I can now finally move on to the weathering. I'm going to start this with something new to me, spraying clay washes.

Hi Bob
Looks great.looking forward to the weathering.
The airbrush cup lid is excellent. Don't worry about the bonnet - these vehicles were well known for their tendency to run into camels :smiling: :rolling:

Good morning gents :)

I finally got on with some weathering over the last few evenings, in fact I got the first two stages done. I don't think I mentioned this before but my vision for this vehicle is that it's been out in the Afghanistan desert for a long time during the rainy Winter/Spring periods. In other words, Dirty!

First up was spraying the entire model with three tones of clay wash, which left it looking like this.

The majority of this was then removed with a damp brush, leaving lots of ingrained dirt and streaks behind. The front end was cleaned off a little more as I wanted it to look a bit more sand blasted from driving through the desert. This was followed up by a very thin oil wash round the bolts, fittings, greeblies, etc.

It does look quite stark now, but this will be followed up with a metallic dry brushing over a few areas, and then an overall sand pigment scrub which will lighten everything up.

Unfortunately that will have to wait a week or so, the dinging room table is apparently needed for Christmas dinner, so everything is getting packed up tonight.

Hi Bob
That's a great look you've got there.

I've not heard of that before. Does the clay wash just clean off/streak with water?

Cheers gents. :)

Jim, that's exactly right. The water reactivates the clay and it come right off. You could actually power wash it completely clean with water in an airbrush.

That looks great Bob. What make are the clay washes? Florries perhaps? Looks like a worthwhile tool in the armoury.

Cheers Tim. :)

Yep, Flory washes. Dark dirt lightly over everything, Grime around the lower parts then a couple of coats of Sand over the top and sides.
