...is it just me or are they a bit rubbish?

I'm currently fighting with a 1/72 Mil Mi-24 Hind f and it's an absolute nightmare. Flash all over it, windows don't fit and keep falling out, the fit is disgraceful. Really don't know why I'm bothering to keep going with it. Think I may start something else tomorrow.

Anyone else have problems with Italeri kits?

I'm building a new tool Italeri Hurricane at the moment and i'm having a pig of a time with it. And yet saying that. Ian M built the same kit not so long back and said it fell together. I built the Italeri C-47 a while back and if i'm honest i hated it. Same issues as i'm having with my Hurricane. I'm hoping it's just a duff one as i have my eye on the new tool Italeri Ju-87B. It can't be a bad kit as Tamiya have used the mould for their Ju-87B kit.

I agree with Allyne on this one - it's very much a game of 2 halves, I've build a couple of the (obviously old) Italeri stuff, F-19 (Testors repop, terrible), Pak 38 (fiddly but not too bad kit once you've wrestled it into submission). However I hear some of their newer stuff is amazing - I have the Staghound which looks good in the box and I've heard good stories about some others - 48th Hawk, 72nd Harrier GR 3....

I think it's a lottery with anything but the newer stuff, but I feel your pain.

Haven't built much Italeri but the P38 and the Opel Blitz were both superb

Are Italeri and Academy the same?

I'm sure I've seen the large "A" logo elsewhere and that's the only maker I can think of that it could be.

The "New" Hunter from Italeri is a re box of the Academy one :-(

I know that Italeri and Tamiya swap tools. vis a vis the hurricane from Italeri will be/is out in a Tamiya boxs. Minus Irish markings and with Finish ones insted.

I have built a few Italeri kits and never had real problems with them. Luck? Most have been newer kits, so hard to say. The 1/48 Hawk was rather good to build.

Italeri are a bit like Revell.A lot of their kits are produced from moulds previously used by companies that have gone out of business.So you need to do a bit of homework before buying one.Just google 'italerie 1/48 B25' for instance and you will usually find a review of the kit you are interested in.I've built the B25 and have got the Grumman Avenger 1/48 in my stash.These italeri kits are ex 'Accurate Miniature's and are superb.

I have recently built an Italeri Dodge Ambulance, went together very nicely indeed, I think it depends on the molds they have used because some are great fits and others are damn right rubbish, That being said I have the Hurricane to build so I may change my mind about the make if I have as much trouble as Alleyne has with his..................

Andy. I've been trying to find other builds of the Hurricane over the net but they are far and few between. Honestly some of the problems may be down to my skills but some are defo not. Ian M did a great job on his hurricane and knowing this is a new tool i fear that i may have just got a duff one (at least i'm hoping so). Yes there are some issues with how things fix together but i'd like to build another one just to make sure it wasn't me.

As i said previously. Their Ju87 is ment to be a cracking kit. It must be if Tamiya are using the moulds

Ive never had any serious problems with italeri kits , BUT thats not to say they havent got their fair share of dogs in the range. Its impossible to say if any manufacturer is good or bad , as they ALL have a few rubbish kits as well as the good ones ( yes,even the hallowed Tamiya!) A lot of the moulds are swapped/sold /re hashed/ retooled between manufacturers ,so the best way to get a good idea if a kit is any good before you part with your cash ,is to do as dave says - either google the kit and look for reviews or ask on the forum. As for the hind , stick at it , it might not turn out as bad as you think, cheers tony

Darn! I wish I had read this thread last night before I got the Italeri C-47 and Lockheed Hudson this afternoon :-(

Granted I payed only about 50% and 35% value of retail for it, I hope it makes up for the poor kit.

Theuns. The main thing i found with the C-47 is the engine nacelle fit and also the front windscreen is very brittle and easy to break. Other then that it's ok

I might then go for the resin turboprop set we have here and make it into a SAAF TP-47. Even if the front windo broke it is easy to make a new flat one, not like the rear portion of my ME109E I managed to loose :-(

I've just finished the new 1/48 JU-87; it doesn't quite fall together like a Tamiya kit, but it was pretty good - 8.5 out of 10? Also just built their 1/48 Opel Tankwagen, and that was a lovely little kit.
