This an old but still good Tamiya kit . I painted it with Xtracolour enamels and Tamiya ‘tyre black’.Weathered with oil paints. Unfortunately the white spirit I used to blend them in with has reacted with the Alclad gloss varnish. Anyone know of a gloss clear coat that doesn’t react with white spirit?. The model is finished as an aircraft of 448 sqdn RNZAF, Singapore late 1942.

Nice plane:thumb2: I use/ have used, Vallejo gloss,Matt and satin acrylic varnish and can’t say I’ve had a reaction to white spirit that I’ve used during weathering.

Hi Dave, Buffalos over Malaya were decimated due to British over confidence and bad intel on Japanese capabilities.

Very nice looking build. I have always liked the funny chubbiness of the Buffalo. I would use acrylic varnishes as it hasn't reacted to any petroleum based paints that have been applied on my kits. Just make sure the paint has cured first.

Word of warning Dave, It can be a bit of an arse to airbrush nicely just like the model air range. I always use several thinned coats

I think I’ve used it in the past. Probably why I changed to Alclad

I’ve just ordered me one of these the other day, though mine will be finished as an ML-KNIL plane. Anything I need to look out for when building it? (Although, given that it’s a Tamiya kit, I kind of doubt it.)

Nothing difficult about this kit.A nice,easy build.I replaced the roundels and fin flashes with items from an Xtradecal sheet as the red in the kit ones was a bit bright.And the aerial mast is a bit bendy so I used a piece of aluminium tubing flattened to give the correct profile.

That won’t be an issue for me, at least.

That sounds like an idea I might follow.

As a frequent user of the VJ varnish line I can confirm Si's words, a couple of thin coats and letting it dry properly will give the underlying coats a good protection for your weathering.
