Morning guys. :)

For my second attempt at a motorcycle I've chosen this.

1.jpg

I've made a start by getting the engine block cleaned up and together along with all the various bits that go with it. I also got the frame, mudguard and main body halves glued together along with all the parts from the chrome sprue. The chrome was actually really nice, unfortunately with this being an older kit (1999) there were a lot of seams to clean up so I opted to strip the chrome and will repaint.

Hi Bob
Well if this comes out as well as your last motorbike we're in for a treat. Is this one the same scale?
Jim

I fancy a go at this one too one day !
The original R1 in the best colour scheme

Nice start Bob, I’ve only built 1 motorbike and it was a bit of a wreck. Just pulled up my chair to watch.

Cheers guys. :)

Jim, 1/12 scale same as the RC213V.

Steve, agreed, the Red and White looks great. There are 4 colour options with the kit (two for 1998 and two for 199(, but I'm going for the '98 version shown on the boxart.

Ian, welcome aboard.

I'll watch along Bob. I have this one in the stash and the newer R1 too. Always preferred the blue myself.

Welcome along for the ride Nick. :)

I got the first paint down yesterday. I've gone for gloss aluminium on the frame as it seems to match the boxart the best (and I'm guessing the real bike frame would be ali).

Morning guys. :)

I finished building the engine and got it installed in the frame this weekend, still need to add a wash to the frame. I took some artistic licence with regards to the colour of some of the engine parts.

Cheers gents. :)

I had a bit of an "Oh S**t" moment this morning when I was working on the rear suspension (the joys of working from home). I couldn't find the suspension spring, not sure if I lost it or it wasn't in the kit. So I made this:

Not perfect by a long shot but should do and will be tucked mostly out of sight.

Great to see more motorcycles on show!
Always been my first love - owning , riding and model making !
I had the pleasure of riding one of these early R1s in France. Me and a couple of mates rode to Italy, one guy hired an R1 and we all took turns seeing how fast we could go on the Motorway ( when we were less worried about getting caught :rolling: ) 180 mph was seen.......

Morning chaps. :)

Back ends on. I lost a little bit of the decal on the exhaust when fitting the mounting clamp, not sure yet if I'm going to leave it or attempt a repair. The exhaust is only attached by one screw so I can remove it later if needed.

Cheers Steve. :)

I've been working on the paintwork for the last few days. First up was the body panels, painted, glossed, decalled and glossed again. The kit comes with a decal for the red accent on the front fairing, but I decided to mask and paint it instead.

Then I cleaned up all the remaining parts and got them painted.

So with everything now painted it's just a case of getting it all put together. :)
