Nice model. Went together well with few problems. The largest was just the shear volume of the model. Out came the .4 nozzle needle & large cup.

Yellow a nightmare. There must be 4 or 5 coats of yellow.

Enormous decals but good quality. On the large numbers I cut off all the clear parts & with care all went well.

The black stripes strips all came in decals but masked & airbrushed these for a better finish.

Finally takes up a great amount of room but a great aircraft. I think one of the most beautiful ranks to me along side the Spitfire. I filmed it over Jersey during the B of Britain display for a company conference. It is such an elegant craft the way it moves in the air.

Thanks to Dave W who suggested for his exprience leaving the wings off until the final. Finished even the decals then stuck on wing.

I can't believe you compared the lines of the Catalina to a Spitfire. To me it looks like a boat with wings

Matter of interest. I mentioned sticking the wings on at the very last throw of the dice. Did that in the evening using PVA. And there it stood.

Sunink went wrong. Next morning I came down took hold of the wing tips & the fuselage fell off & clattered on to the work top. No damage a miracle. Then not to have it happen again I used (turns out to copiously) loads of Gator Glue (why do I not learn). 2 hours later returned. Stuck like glue. But it had foamed through the joint & was every where.

Yes I will. I have filmed the Catalina in the air during which it made tight turns at low level & it was just an incredible sight. Filmed it on the ground landing & taking off & went home just thinking what a beautiful aircraft. Not that you can compare to the Spitfire just commenting on the beauty of both. Also for me aircraft have a prominence. That Catalina butch nose, enormous wings & beautifully slender lines of the rear fuselage & tail piece

Sad that Mitchell did not see his Spitfire in action what he had produced. An incredible machine. The young men flying those machines & the success this aircraft had & how adaptable it was to upgrading. It also went through the whole war.

The Catalina also went through the whole war and before the USA arrived on scene. It found the Bismark. Ferried continously pilots across the Atlantic carrying the aircraft ferry pilots back to the USA USA. Found the Japanese Carriers at Midway at the same time landing on the sea & rescuing USA pilots.

Hi Laurie,the "Catalina" was undoubtedly a great aircraft. I wouldn't compare it to a Spitfire but,to me,a classic aeroplane,in flight,is always a beautiful sight.
