discussion Thinking of my next model - ideas?

Hey everyone.. New to the forum as some may know. I've got a Porsche 1/12th scale tamiya under way. But i'm already craving something else. Must be large scale, aircraft and from the WW2 era...Possibly in some form of a crash diorama too.

Answers on a postcard please!

Well there is a 1/32 spitfire doing the circuit on the forum at the moment. I am sure several of those that have built one said it would be ideal for a crashed dio..... LOL.

So Spitfire, muddy field and an angry farmer- Problem is its a post war spitfire.

Revell 1/48 B17F 'Memphis Belle' makes up into abide model with a bit of work and only costs around £25.Or their 1/32 Spitfire and Hurricane r only £20,

1/32 scale B-17 broken in half on the runway, with fuel all over the place, aircrew running like the clappers.

I built that damned Spitfire and it nearly crashed into the bin a few times I can tell you.

What about one of the big Airfix 1/24 aircraft kits. Not cheap but they can be made to look pretty good. I'd go for the Stuka,Hurricane or Bf109.

If youve no budget and no funds just spread some dirt on a tray and make a card up saying something like 'During the Battle of Britain an ME110 hit this marshland so hard in a vertical dive that it is and is copletely burried'.Shouldnt cost anything if you nick the wife/mothers tea tray!.

Ju88 you say. How about the last battle on British soil,the little known battle of Graveney Marsh? Never heard of it? Check this out.

You can see in the close up that the crew have dismounted the forward firing machine gun. I think they tried to hold off the British whilst they attempted to demolish or burn the aircraft.

Yeah I'm feeling that Steve, I really love the winter colours of the Luftwaffe in WW2, which I think would be a good. Maybe left over time and the snow melted to make it easier to craft.

Gonna need alot of ref. photos to get it under way, know any sites?

Which are you looking for,the Ju88 or "scrapyard"? I think a search of the internet will turn up plenty of Ju88s,if you have any specific questions I'll probably be able to help you out.

The winter camouflage was applied over the normal scheme and varied from a good solid white coat applied by what we would call a maintenence unit to very random splodges and squiggles applied in the field. It invariably weathered quickly in high wear/traffic areas.

The scrapyards would be more problematic. I could PM you a few "scrapyard" images from various books if you like.

I read about the Graveney marsh battle.Apparently an army unit was in nearby pub.They took the german crew prisoner and then took them back to the pub and bought them a drink!.Can't see that happening these days.

The scrap yard I was thinking... But having been up in my loft and actually worked out what models I have, I'm tempted to get onto the 'Pibber' boat and crashed UH-1 Diorama I've always wanted to do..

when u said u had no budget you forgot to mention u already had soon kits!.If I had that lot I'd do the B17 in a wheels up landing scene on a grass base.Props bent,crew door open and maybe an ambulance with a few figures stood around.

Someone has built a great diorama using that model. It's of the aircraft sinking in the channel as the pilot clambers out on to the wing. I can't remember the pilot or unit but the diorama is in the BoB museum in Kent.
