Hope you're feeling a bit better now,btw, for the etch cutting I use an old ceramic tile as a base..... Gives a lovely clean cut

Good idea on the etch, might try and find one. I’m sure there’s one in the garage somewhere.
Big of a hiatus while I filled and sanded some joints, but moving on again now. Airframe assembled…….
Still a little more filling before I do the primer coat……
The other wing joint isn’t so bad……and you can see some of the fuselage join work….this was either my bad hands, or I got a Friday afternoon Tamiya kit. The wings are completely Tam though, hands are OK at the moment……
To be honest I’m a little disappointed with the fit of the main parts on this bird. It’s always had rave reviews, but I would say it’s no more than average. Not the greatest positive fit on the parts, and unexpected gaps. The tail horizontal stabilisers, for example, flap around a lot until the glue starts taking. The fuselage seam was like this all round, almost like the right side was marginally wider than the left. The trailing edges on the wings never went together that well, and the wing tips had a slightly different cross sectional profile to the wings. All fixable, but unexpected in a big T kit.

I thought it was just me Tim but I echo all your experience with this kit - I've started my half-track to enable me to approach it again in a more positive attitude. Having said that, I still think it's a good kit and will build up well as we've already seen! Crack on mate, it's coming on nicely!

Agreed Steve, it’s a decent kit that looks like it’s subject. A bit more design thought would have improved it though. I’ve just painted in the internal canopy frames, and just a touch more definition would have really helped, for example. There is no way you could use the supplied decals, they are the wrong colour for a start…..
Glad I’m approaching the end of the build stage so I can get into painting…..

The low light level would suggest a long exposure time for the photo, which would explain the Tracer rounds' ray gun effect. Never the less an impressive, or is it imposing, photo.
On another note could you just imagine one of these with the BRRRRrrrrt from an A-10 Warthog.

Coming on nicely Tim, despite the problems but as you say not what you expect from Tamiya.
Interestingly my 1/72 one, which is supposedly a scaled down version of your, has so far been almost flawless with the only problems being my fault.

The kit is about twenty five years old now, so I could be expecting too much from it Andrew. Moulding was flawless, it’s just the fit isn’t as crisp as I would expect. Glad yours was OK.
Certainly will Rick. Thanks for the compliment……In spite of the "bad" fit you are progressing very nicely on this Tim.....that office is a work of art and I'm sure, once you have satisfied yourself that all seams have disappeared the finish will be flawless. PCO my good man. :thumb2:
Didn't realise the decal issues Tim - can you recommend an alternative? I'm in the process of building the (mainly) black Vb night bomber and I'm no longer a Wingy Bilder!

Check your decals. It might be the colour is a bit off on my decals. You would need to clip off the carrier film tight to the decals as well. It will show on the canopy.
For mine, I just used a good brush and Vallejo interior green paint Steve. Any overpaint can be easily removed with a chisel shaped cocktail stick. Might take a couple of goes until you are happy, but acrylics dry quickly so it’s not too onerous.

Construction complete. Masked up and ready for primer once the paper stuffing dries out…..probably after lunch……just a quick brush down first.
Just been checking my Xtradecal set for Len Cheshire’s ride, and it’s all over medium sea grey (top and bottom) with the green disruptive pattern on top, so that’s nice and easy……the only slightly tricky bit will be the half invasion stripes like the Spitfire I did. Just got to work out how wide two foot stripes are in 1/48th…..and that’s nice and easy as well! How does half an inch sound

Great to see you driving on Tim. Nice clean work as usual too. Invasion stripes are too far over my head in any scale! I truly hope you are doing much better with the RA my friend...Bring on the primer.......
