Scale Model Shop

Tonys chinese liberation air force mustang

Your hols have certainly done you good judging by this model. The cockpit looks great. It could easily be taken for a well made 1/48 scale.

Bit more done , ive filled the panel lines on the leading edges of the wings as they did in real life , and sorted the seams out on the fuselage 8F3885AA-37A2-4D06-9326-CB5166EC9DB8.jpeg963A1C38-44EC-4AF7-B8B6-C99FADBADC91.jpeg

Filler all smoothed off now and wings on. I had to sand a bit off the wing tops at the fuselage joint so they fitted flush but easy enough to do and only a couple of lines to rescribe. Ive been looking at the machine guns and the kit ones are a bit lifeless , to be expected really at this scale , so after a clean up I sanded them off and drilled them out with a 0.8 mm bit . They will be replaced with brass tubing which has been cut already but will be added last off to prevent them getting blocked up with primer/ paint etc.
While i had the micro drills out I drilled the exhaust stubs with a 0.5 mm bit ( i must be mental ) , tricky work but they look a bit better now.
The reflector screen on the gunsight has been added from holographic confetti and
the windscreen and canopy have been very carefully removed from the sprue and the attachment points cleaned up and repolished . This is the only bit of the kit that could be better , the rear canopy frame is separate and the windscreen has no framing on the bottom edge. Most other makers have the rear section all in one piece which is better in my opinion , no join to worry about . Anyway the windscreen is masked and fitted , the rear section will be added last off. 72A7AAF0-68F7-4FAF-87BB-62C1AC108811.jpegCCA6BB07-52CC-490B-95E4-72DE5164AAF9.jpegD03CB1A9-D921-4A63-9DA8-A5198DB6BA9E.jpegD9AE5BE2-12FF-46D7-86B8-3733852F317F.jpegF8C4B775-99BA-476E-AB2D-245A0102FC45.jpegF5AA5457-39BA-4B4D-AFB9-3C49F0950D7A.jpeg42678BC2-1BB5-47E4-A8AE-DA5569D93583.jpeg396FED91-6F81-4B4E-AEB5-47860B33486B.jpeg8DDFF4CA-A696-4866-BEA3-02EAD91E5BC2.jpeg0FB8D729-00DD-4558-92EB-B262124D0C88.jpegCDC95EF6-C932-4F9D-AB45-3292FAE86E66.jpeg42D8433A-59B2-4F1B-9CDE-D7854A930BD5.jpegA39F5E54-DD40-459A-AA12-1EA24416C219.jpeg

Got the olive drab on for the anti glare panel , going to give this a good 24 hours to cure before masking it off ready for the silver colours to go on . 5D42F0DD-E4DD-470F-B44E-479EA0196B12.jpeg

All looking good Tony. The Matt and gloss black will create a nice contrast for the metallics.

Cracking job so far Tony :thumb2:

Like the use of the confetti for the gun sight, I might “borrow” that idea ;)

Geoff.

Just had a good read up of this from the beginning, very interesting stuff I must say. :)
Coming along a treat Tony, and certainly a "different" specimen too!
Nice one.
Andy

I must have been following Smitty as I ended up here also. Tremendous effort on this little wing thing. And it's really paying off. :thumb2:

Bit more done today , the rudder has been unmasked and after a couple of tiny touch ups looks ok. Ive painted the wheels and tyres , giving them a dry brush with a dark grey to highlight the tread and ive painted the exhausts . The airframe was masked off and the aluminium laquer areas sprayed in vallejo dark aluminium . The natural metal bits ( ie. Everything else ) will be painted in a brighter aluminium . Its now been demasked and masked up again for the natural metal parts . A coat of semi matt aluminium later and here we are . 0D228479-EEC2-434B-8955-04084C25EF28.jpegE50E7519-7A6C-48F4-8048-47E82101C733.jpeg
A few access panels and the machine gun panels were picked out in a different shade and the prominent dark areas round the exhausts and the oil cooler intakes was done in a mix of steel and dark aluminium. Decals next i think then a final coming together of all the bits .
