Hello All,

I try to keep things positive but I just finished a model that I gave up on half way through because it wasn't what I expected. I purchased it early in my evolution because I liked the box art and before I researched models prior to purchase. My lack of patience took over, problems with a humbrol paint caused airbrush problems and I just want it over to start a new model that I know I will like because I did the due diligence before hand, which is here, have inspected it and I have all the materials and correct paints.

I was wondering if anyone else had this experience and how they dealt with it because, I will say, that it knocked me back a bit - the first time in eleven months of this hobby. I've had other problems before (which is life) but this is the first time I've been disheartened.

At the start of this hobby I purchased lots of old, cheap models on eBay to practice on and I wasn't that miffed if there were problems on my part because the financial loss was limited and I had set my expectations quite low. I have set goals for myself as time goes on and this model is one of the worst I have ever done, apart from one that I completely gave up on in the early days.

I just finished the decals because I still need practice with them and those turned out OK but this plane is definitely not going on the display shelf lol.

Oh yeah.... Too many times!

I find that when things go wrong or take too long I get disheartened

For me I do the same thing when I get a mojo loss........ Go back to a basic but good quality kit..... Nothing fancy....., go back to basics.... That way you rebuild confidence

You can't get it right every time, learnt that a long time ago so don't beat yourself up over it..... Chalk it up to experience and on with the next one

Yes been there too lol, I had a habbit of buying cheap 2nd hand kits but you get what you pay for. Now I always check out some reviews and pictures.

If you're not having fun then there's no shame in starting a new project, that often gets the mojo going again :coffee:

The last crappy model I stopped building was this Italeri F-16A : kit from 2018, nice decals and boxart, but the model itself is rubbish and overpriced (imho) - ended up in a box after spending way too much time fixing issues.

Somewhere there is a thread of mine on a Revell Bell UH-1 - absolute pants of a kit. I binned it and moved on. I also have a little airfix 1/72 spitfire which was fine until I lost the whole transparency fret - now I use it as a test for airbrushing.

At the end of the day, it’s just a model kit, don’t sweat the small stuff right?

Yep, been there, done that, etc.
If you are not feeling it, maybe put it to one side and just start something else, you can always go back to a model, or use it for spares, or use it to practice on, etc. And, as the old proverb goes, we tend to learn more from our mistakes, then we do from our successes..... or summit! ;)(y):ROFLMAO:

Many times I've been into a diorama then lost it, either the physical size stops me or the model is wrong.
Just something we have to live with, of course when you add the cost of some failure it can become rather daunting.

well im there at the moment with my USS HORNET of being disheartened AS the tiny planes made of glass plastic just wont stick an very fragile an wheels have just dropped of the planes but this is no cheapo kit so im stickin at it to get it built as i havnt been beaten by a model yet an i dont intend for it to be on this hornet it will be built even though im not really enjoyin it

I had one recently that was a real POS, overly soft plastic that become a molten blob when shown any cement.
Every locating hole needed drilling out or at least the ones that were in the right place did.
Life is too short for all that mucking about so into the Grey wheelie bin it went.

I have given up and binned a kit now and then if it’s a particular pig.

I’ll generally try to rectify faults but I’ve found sometimes when I press on it just becomes a mojo killer.

You managed to practice with the decals so all was not lost.

Life is just to short for bad kits 😔

Geoff.
