Good luck tone , just try and focus on how much money you would have spent on fags and beer , gives you a reason for wanting to do it. A guy who i work with quit six months ago and hes got an app for his phone that adds it up every day how much he would have spent on fags - its running at nearly £1500 at the moment !!!! If being three grand a year better off and feeling a lot healthier isnt a good reason to stick with it I dont know what is !! cheers tony

Good for you mate, one hour at a time...do not think in days, just get through the hour.

Si:)

when i gave it went like this if i can go an hour with out,i can go 1 day,if i can do 1 day i can do 1 week and after two weeks it was all over so once and gain go for it

It only gets easier - sometimes rather slowly though - from now on Tone. Stay with it!

The booze I can leave. never really bothers me if its there or not. Maybe a couple of beers a week in the summer is the closest it has ever been to a habit.

The smokes.... Not so good. I had given up once but fell in again. The last time I tried the wife actually told me to go buy some ciggies. (Apparently I was a grumpy Barstool, or some thing like that).

In Denmark if you want to give up, the Doctor just tells you to go buy some nicotine gum- Did that (and paid more than a pack of smokes). Spent the day throwing up and feeling like I had been sucking a dog end.

So still smoke. The fun begins later. the place I work will be banning smoking any where on the property...So I will have to try again I guess.

Good luck with your bid to be free of the nails and wally water.

Don't worry about the beer your body needs fluids to get rid of those nasty fag chemicals so I would drink more beers, oops sorry, stay off the cigs mate.

I gave up smoking back in 1993. I suppose everyone is different. For a year or two the temptation to start again, or at least relapse in certain social situations was strong. Now the thought of smoking almost makes me gag. Like Joe I am very sensitive to the smell of tobacco smoke nowadays and struggle NOT to be one of those anti smoking Nazis which would be a bit hypocritical to say the least.

If you can afford to do it (I appreciate now is not a good time for you) then I would second the idea of putting aside the money you spent on the old coffin nails in a separate account or biscuit tin. You will be amazed how much you were spending, we are all in denial about this as smokers.

If you really want to stop then you can and will. If you are kidding yourself then you will just waste money on patches, gum etc to no avail. You can only possibly maintain the will to stop if it is there in the first place. You will be tempted to have a crafty one in certain situations. You have to ask yourself some serious questions and answer them honestly.

Good luck. Giving up smoking was one of the best things I've ever done and I feel a lot better for it.

Cheers

Steve
