What do people do with their models?

couple of display cabinets on the wall in the mancave has some stuff in it........got them on ebay but they are a bit narrow....plan is to get another to fill a gap on the wall

big stuff is in plastic storage boxes to keep them dust free, stored under the bed

i want a display cabinet in the front room but cant find one i like for the right price......not struck on the ikea ones
"they are a bit narrow....plan is to get another to fill a gap" - the one which fills the gap will be really narrow! ;)

I have a tall and ( not too narrow) display unit we found in a junk shop which is in the lounge and filled with figures - mainly busts.

figures are not the problem I find it difficult finding homes for vehicles ot diorama, some a spare room or boxed in the loft. My beer Cellar flats boxed dio sits in the mantle piece - I left it there and it just hasn't moved - it will move when the Christmas decorations go up and I doubt if it will return in the New Year.

i intent to have a clear out and only keep a few models, will need to take some good photos first.

That cabinet is very nice Peter but the contents are the Bomb!! Is that Saint Nick on the second shelf?......appears you have a jump on the Christmas decorating already. ;)

Chaps,

There is an alternative to cabinets (provided you don't mind doing the dusting).

Take a look at https://www.glassshelf.co.uk/

The shelf mounting is simple and the LED strip illuminates the glass to really show off all your hard work.

I almost used them but they want a ridiculous £30 courier charge to Outer Mongolia (aka Scotland) so cancelled the order. For those fortunate enough to live south of the border, the transport fees might be much more reasonable.

Regards,
John

A little while ago we had to clear out my mum's flat when she moved into a care home and ax part of we aquired a little table, not knowing what to do with it is was just left in a corner - it now has my 'Ambush" boxed diorama on it. Not sure how long it will stay there before Tina gets fed up with it.

If anyone knows where I can get a decent wall cabinet that is at least 8 inches deep I’d be very interested :tongue-out3:
The shallow ones I have don’t hold tank or aircraft models, just figures……the just aren’t deep enough.
Try a kitchen unit ,wall type with a glass door , they will be 280mm deep . Various sizes available.

I keep them and then burn them in a satanic ritual...okay, no I don't.

Due to limited space I keep for a while and then have to move them on.

Some I give away, some I sell on (if you think you can make money from models then unless they are a commision build or they are exceptional in quality, size etc then the answer is no, I pass on and am lucky if I have made enough to just cover the kit. But, that is part of the joy, no matter its cost to you in money and time, a piece you made is out there...warts and all).

I have thrown some away that have gotten damaged or if using resins or silicone you can have discoloration and you just cannot do anything...plus I cannot be bothered then, they are binned.
