What's on the Bench 2024

Thanks guys.

I've still got the tricky part to fully work out, but I'm waiting on a delivery of brass strip (cheers Paul for the details), before I can go much further.

Thankfully the belly of the model is a separate piece and fits wonderfully, so I can crack on with the rest of it and join it up later.

Following the way I believe they were painted in real life, I gave the Chinook a very quick & dirty camouflage:

The after a protective coat of clear I sprayed the desert pink, adding some variation with bits of US desert sand and Middle Stone. I've gradually started abrading the pink away, as if sand blasted by the rotor downwash etc, to reveal some of the camo underneath. The picture doesn't show it well and it still needs more work, but it's getting to where I want it to be.

M1 is going from the bench to the shelf waiting for its final destination at my late friend's son home.

Still pondering about the aerials, which should be there but in my models they seldom last more than 15 minutes...

Some of the pictures I've seen show these as very grubby and discoloured, so I made a start on that with a sepia panel line wash. I then thinned the same colour and sponged it randomly, blending with a dry brush here & there.

I then put the decals on and sealed it all in with a satin varnish, ready for more weathering

I still need to face the elephant in the room (suspending it from the container) but I'm having fun with this bit for now.

Thanks chaps. There's more weathering to come now that the decals are on.

This is the kind of thing I'm aiming for

And I'm getting there with the scene too, having sorted the cables. A lot more work to do but I'm happy to have it all in place

Not done much recently, but I’m plodding through these guys. They seem to be taking forever, which, combined with a lack of mojo, is turning them into a bit of a slog.
Neddies done, troops done, shields to finish and affix, and officer/standard bearer to finish.
