This is going to be, at least for me, a summer of summers.

First the Olympic Torch which so far has been a real hit in local communities. Coming to Jersey as well the most southerly of the British Isles.

First West Indies Test matches. Pleased to see they are recovering from the doldrums.

Then the Queen's Jubillee.

Then the European Football Championship.

Then the Wimbledon Championships.

Then South Africa Test matches.

Then the Olympics.

Then the para Olympics.

Can it get better than that. I will enjoy every minute. There is going to be some squabbles for who watches what. Working on a strategy here !

Hi Laurie - u r being awfully kind to the windies there methinks ...... still a very very average side. The SA / English series is always good fun (lots of competetive needle).. we have a very good unit at the moment albeit they have not played for several months. I think we might shade that one. cheers Lindsey

It's boiling in Brum today,I've left my "studio" for a bit. There's a lot of glass and even with windows and doors open I was starting to feel like a tomato plant!

Cheers

Put in an order for you Vaughan.

1:00pm lunch time you will have sunshine & 20 degrees real heat.

We will have fog. Unfortunately no control over Jersey Weather. But good airbrushing weather.

B & Q do a good line in air cooling Steve. Also sun blinds.

The only 2 good things I see in that list are the Para Olympics & the Queens Jubilee, all the rest = YAWN...

Unfortunately had to miss my annual day at Lords for the test this year but it's easy to keep up online (Sky TV will never be allowed in my house)

The Olympic torch will be passing within about a mile of my house, I won't be amongst the crowds to watch this international symbol of cash going down the drain. 40 odd people to accompany the torch bearers? It would've been cheaper to lay a line of £50 notes from Olympus to Greenwich and set fire to 'em

Olympics = bore-fest/the most interesting part lasts about 9 seconds, woopie

Jubilee = is that something to do with that load of camp ex-German cellebs that are all over the media like a rash?

We'll be knocked out of the Euros in the quarter finals (if we get that far)

Paralympics = see Olympics

Wimbledon = even worse, unless you're middle aged & female (come on Tim/Andy/any other no-hoper) snore ZZZZZZZZZ

Playing the Saffers on their home turf'll be tight

Can it get any better? Gordon Bennett I certainly hope so, apart from the cricket and our brief participation in the football you can keep the rest

If you're that bothered about missing any of the sleep inducing TV mentioned above get yourself a Tivo box, no need to thank me

PS. Enjoy :smile1:

End of the world? Easy, 4.5 billion years

End of the human race? No, too unpredictable, technology is outstripping our capacity to have a grain of common sense

Seriously, ignore me, you enjoy your summer of TV, in a few months time we could be European football champions, have a wimbledon champion, whitewash the S.A. cricket team and the royals could stop being a drain on the taxpayer. Who knows they may even find a way to make athletics interesting?

:yeahbaby: :emo:

(Don't know why I'm so grumpy, I've got 3 weeks off work and I have to spend a week at my sisters house in Montpellier )

Enjoy your holiday Andy while we languish. I am jealous Montpellier does not enter into my summer. All that wine lobsters & crabs. Also must be the artichoke season. Silly forgot my favorite Langoustines.

Just the Jubilee for me. For the rest I'll spend some time on my stash.

Lol Andy, I'm with you... would rather enjoy the weather (preferably sunny) than sitting in front of the box. I like your £50 note analogy, a lot of money spent for no real long term gain except for the council who will love the rates take on these buildings! Right, back to the tank methinks and get it a step closer to completion! Enjoy the nice weather everyone...

I think I spoke too soon Laurie. We seem to have a bit of a heatwave and my garden room is like a hot house. So that puts an end to airbrushing and modelling until later in the day or first thing in the morning.

I'm not into general sport either, I enjoyed F1 untill this year when the BBCs staying power got lost and Sky monopolised it (as they do with everything) and we have to pay for the privelige if we want to watch it all live ... well i don't as i'm not akin to being forced into anything coz i'm grumpy.

As far as the olympics then i hope i'm wrong but i personally think it's tempting fate for terrorist activity and in all honesty the money could have been better spent on our schools and hospitals etc.

Not wishing to start an agrovated debate here, it's just my thoughts and opinions :) :)

Hi Colin .. i can add to this as we held the world cup in SA in 2010 ... initially we were very sceptical as there were massive costs involved, our crime rate is quite high and we were concerned it would worsen ... as it turned out it was an awesome event and the vibe in the country was nothing short of amazing. the day of the first match all folk in the CBD of Johannesburg (1000's of us) went outside at 12h00 and blew their vuvusela's . what a racket but everyone just bought into the whole event for the entire time. What's the bet once the olympics kick off there most folk will forget their problems for a little time at least and just enjoy the whole thing .. nothing like sport to liven up the day a bit (and modelling!!) ... cheers lindsey
