I'm staying in the desert for my next one, and here is another Young Miniatures bust, a British soldier at El Alamein 1942, by a new sculptor to me, Hryuki Ishii.

The box contents:

I must say, this is one of the most precisely detailed busts I've seen - beautiful work. The only slight downer is that the face around the eyes looks a bit weak, but the proof will be in the painting.

Hi Peter
First in and centre. Looks nice. The box art shows a very smooth faced young man.

Face actually makes me think of a black market racketeer.....
looking forward to seeing what you do with this one.

Nice to see a face that's neither a caricature or a matinee idol- he actually looks like he could be a real person. If anything he looks a tad a Australian, which is no bad thing for the western desert.
I'm sure you will work your usual magic.

Bit of an audience I see - I hope I can do it justice. Yes, good to see that he looks like an ordinary bloke, though I am worried by the eyes. The box artist has given him a covering of freckles.

Late to parade im afraid so put me on a fizzer.Another nice looking bust and see your take on it Pierre,Still no sculpting.Mojo non existent and considering doing a heliocopter kit to keep me sane ish.
Rich.

Morning Peter

Looks like another dull dreary weekend ahead, so much for the BBC weather reports with a sunny spell!

Lets hope the eyes are OK once you get started?

The box art has a very smooth light touch to the face, somewhat Alpine in finish.

Hopefully a little character for you to be able to work with.

Perhaps a little brushwork for me too!

Have a good weekend and enjoy the painting

Regards

Morning Steve

No painting yesterday, as we spent the day here:

This is Hampton, to the west of Herne Bay. Believe it or not there used to be a village in the bay, but over the years it succumbed to the ravages of the sea. The only part remaining is the pier and the pub on the left. (the other development is modern). A good walk and cleared sinuses and I'm ready to have a crack at the face. I'm going to try for a sun-tanned and unshaven look. Hope you get some painting done!

Another tricky one. The structure of the face was a bit different from the usual offerings, and it took me a while to find my way. Added to that, I decided on contrasty tones, which didn't make things easier. The eyes weren't too problematic after all, though the left one does droop a bit, but we call that character.
