Zvezda 1/48 Mil-24N Hind

I wonder if the problems with instructions, which we see far too often, are down to poor translation :rolling:
Jim
I've often thought that with models, and with computer software, one department creates the actual product, another department writes the instructions, and they're forbidden to talk to each other.
Pete

I have come across this with Zvezda and other kits where there is an option for more than one version. I now tend to study the instructions and mark the sections for the version I want so that I do not get mixed up.

Andy.

One company I worked for used to subcontract the production of operator's manuals & parts lists to an outside company, they used take photos & convert them to line diagrams & a technical author used to write the spiel. This was circulated for comments/errors & after about 6 cycles, it was published. The problem was the outside companies weren't really savvy with engineering concepts. With the advent of CAD, whole process was much shortened. I even wrote some of the technical stuff myself, until other projects diverted my time.

A couple of close ups of the cockpit before I close it up. You can really appreciate how good these 3D decal sets are. All the detail is really from this set.

I am busy adding various ‘lumps and bumps’ on this very lumpy and bumpy helicopter, working to get it ready for primer.

Ps. I do like this new photo upload system, by the way, it makes it a lot easier to put the right picture in the right place when using a phone.

Those 3D print things sure do make a cockpit pop. That looks amazing.
The bird though maybe not as sleek does look rather more aggressive with those big EES boxes bolted on the sides.

More bins and bobs attached.

That is probably it for priming. I will probably use some Micro Kristal Klear on the canopy joins later just to make sure paint die not enter the cockpit.

Below are items ready for painting that will be added as final fittings.

After sealing the joins with Micro Krystal Klear I sprayed the clear parts with the cockpit interior colour. 39234625-EF32-4CBE-B1BD-05AA685041DE.jpeg

There are a lot of parts held back for final fittings ready for priming.

I am using my Topnotch airbrush with a spreader cap for painting the primer.

Here she is in her sexy black undies.

All in all she looks good. Just some minor work in a few places to do then on to painting.

Coming on very nicely Barry. Trust 3D 'decals' do look the business.

Keep up the great work.

Andrew

Coming on beautifully Barry. Just a couple of points though:

1) DON'T drop this one!

2) Your workbench is appalling! Just look at the disgusting state of that paint tray!

PS Those 3D decals are surely the way to go. Far superior to normal decals and painted PE.

I don’t think that I have ever used so many colours on one aircraft before. All sprayed of course.

Here are the subs painted, you can see some touching up is needed and during the process of masking a rotor blade broke off. It should not be a problem to repair it once painting is done. You can see some of the paints used in the picture.

Below are most of the other colours,
to the right, needed to paint the fuselage.

Hi Barry, I have a Hind 24 D enroute for the GB......I was wondering what color you used for the cockpit interior, as I saw no reference to it in the text. Really like the 3D decals.....looks the "bomb". :thumb2: Rick H.

It is Russian Interior Turquoise. MRP001. I always spray MRP.

Thank you......I have no idea as to the colors of these things as I have never built a Russian anything that flies.....first time for everything. ;) Rick H.

I have sprayed the light blue grey underside and the light grey green topside.

It will be the darker green camo next.

Camo done freehand and main masking removed. New masking to do and details to paint next.

That is awesome Barry, I hope I am able to at least come close to this level.......well done! :thumb2: Rick H.

While working on this Russian model of a Russian helicopter this morning I could not help that my thoughts are entirely with the Ukrainian people at this time.

Anyway some more masking done

I am surprised that after spraying and removing the complex masking that there is very little touching up to do.

There remains a lot more painting to do with some more masking next.
