Good evening all
And so after the last minute problems with canopy, I have decided to call this build finished and in doing so achieved four firsts:
If you have been following the build you may recall that this is one of the first 10 F-51s the US supplied to the South Korean Air Force in the very early days of the Korean war. If you want to know more then you can do worse than read these. There's about an hour's worth of reading on the background to Mustangs in Korea:
Details on the kit/paints as follows:
The only issue and I had been warned about it, was one of the undercarriage legs was bent out of shape - apparently it's a very common issue with this kit.
As you know I was aiming for a muted metallic finish as per an image of the actual plane, rather than a nice shiny metal one as you often see. On the whole I'm pleased with how it's turned, albeit I think I could have been slightly more aggressive with my approach.
Oh and I enjoyed it so much I've just ordered another one.
ACW as usual.
All the best.
Andrew

And so after the last minute problems with canopy, I have decided to call this build finished and in doing so achieved four firsts:
- My first Mustang....I'll let that sink in......
- In fact my first US plane since coming back to the hobby and possibly ever!
- My first all metal finish
- My first South Korean Air Force plane

- Eduard Info Article July 2022: info.eduard.com/en/07-2022-1
Details on the kit/paints as follows:
- Kit: Airfix 1:72 North American F-51D Mustang A02047A
- Decals: Kit decals
- Paints: Vallejo Metal Colour and Model Air and possibly some Revell and/or Humbrol on the pilot.
- Weathering: Flory wash (dark and light dirt) and Vallejo game wash for the exhaust stains.
The only issue and I had been warned about it, was one of the undercarriage legs was bent out of shape - apparently it's a very common issue with this kit.
