    Try this.....

32....Yes 32 Gnat jets in three groups 5mins apart, all in cammo, have just flown over my place nr. Chester heading in a s/e direction (12 noon Sunday) Judging by the direction they came from, they could have come from RAF Valley on Anglesey N.Wales.

Bl***y things made me fall out of my sun lounger and spill my drink.....

    Has war broken out??????????????????

    Cheers,

    Ron

Probably the best spot of 2012. I never imagined that there were so many left flying..............I haven't fallen for something have I, Ron did these Gnats all have a jet engine each ?

Truly Colin, no windup, no bull....There were 32...I counted them out, but I sure didn't count them back!

We have a landmark near here called Beeston Castle and jets sometimes use it for 'Target practice' they are usually Gnat fighters.....Hang on a mo' I've just thought, perhaps they might have been Hawks. I'm not too up on modern stuff, but they looked like one or the other....small and compact.

Whatever they were, there were 32 in three groups and all going s/e. Surely someone else must have seen them? It was just before 12 noon today.

Please, someone else post that they saw them too............or find some info as to what it was all about!

I'll give RAF Valley a bell and perhaps they might let me know what went on?

          Cheers,

          Ron

There are 34 hawks at RIAT this year, Are you any where near by that Ron? Only problem is not all of them are Camo birds, Unless the Red Arrows have had a make over that is....

Hi Andy, quite right, they normally scare the **** out of me on a Monday when they have a 'play' in the Welsh hills. Sometimes I'm looking down on them too!

I have just sent an enquiring email to RAF Valley ( I doubt I'll get much joy)

I also have a contact phone number for the station. I will ring them and see if they can at least confirm, that these fighter aircraft (whatever they were) where going like stink over my house today....................

I know they were 'cos I saw them, all of them. Even the bride commented on the large number.

Come on chaps, let's all help old Ron, please someone, anyone, find out just what was going on today!

Trust me, I'm not trying to wind anyone up. I'm telling the absolute 100% truth.

                Cheers,

                Ron

Edit. Sorry Ian our posts crossed.....When I wrote cammo, I meant dark coloured and not red!! I wrote I was a modern jet numpty didn't I?lol.......Sorry I don't know what RIAT means.

Thanks Ian, we could be on to something then.......perhaps they were going from or to this RIAT. Any idea where it would be held?

I'm nr. Chester which is close by the Wirral. This is the 'finger' that juts out below Liverpool.

                    Any thoughts?

O.K., I've done a bit of hunting on 'tinternet.....

I'm pretty certain the jets I saw were Hawks of 208 Sq. (training) who fly out of R.A.F. Anglesey and were on their way to the R.I.A.T. at Fairford, where they are on show, which is up and coming next week...

That's my best shot to clear up my 'personal fly past'! lol

Thanks Ian for the initial pointer...

                      Cheers,

                      Ron

Next week? I'm sure that it was this weekend. Well it says the 7th & 8th July on the website.

It also says that the B2 stealth is confirmed....

                        Anyone here go?

                        Ian M

ps you can get to see the aircraft depart tomorrow park and view £20 at the gate....

At least 27 Hawks flew the EiiR formation at RIAT - check out the photos here .

As an aside. black is not a cammoflage colour, it is quite the opposite, it is a high conspicuity colour.

                            Cheers, Roger....

So I did see them after all. I was starting to think I was cracking up!!

Perhaps they were up my way just having a day's jolly after the airshow? The main thing is I see'd them.....

Unless you are a WW2 RAF bomber

Various forms of "Night",which is essentially black to the Mk 1 eyeball, were used as camouflage. Much research went into it's composition and particularly reflectivity in an effort to make bombers harder to spot from below, even when lit.

                              Cheers
