Having previously researched the mighty 'atom' cannon, you are not far from the truth with that comment. It would seem the only time a LIVE atomic round was fired, personnel were sent into the explosion area to take readings etc., without any protective clothing & keep in mind that it only had a range of 30-35 miles anyway. The shell fired exploded above ground only 17 miles away!
No 'Health & Safety Gestapo' back then!
Being a very old kit, I know it has many glaring errors that as a child I never realised. Seeing it on my cousins mantelpiece was only what I was interested in when we visited.
I found a site on tinternet that had a guy built this many years ago, however when he had finished correcting all of the faults, he had produced an amazingly realistic representation of the original 'AC'.
I know I will never have the patience to build as well as his, however I am going to enjoy reliving the excitement of my childhood again!
To see my completed model on 'MY' mantelpiece will bring me more pleasure than you can imagine.

Just found this quote from a US army personnel who is on the Atomic Annie web site!
"This was on 25 May 1953, when gun #9 fired the only live round ever, a 15 Kiloton weapon, at a distance of 17 miles (27 km) at the Nevada atomic test site; as best as I recall, this was the idiotic exercise where real, live (then) soldiers participated and were sent into the base of the mushroom cloud {wonder how they are today? - SB,III}."
I just got these full size 1/250 plans for the titanic that i will be doing in the super sig i wont say how much they cost all i can say is ouch.cheers peter
On a visit to the local lms this morning I was ambushed by these eight chaps. Once they realised I was not a threat and after a bit of banter they asked if They could use my base for a while. As SWSBO was accompanying me I asked her and to my suprise she agreed . So I duelly marched to the sentry (man on the till) and dispensed of a few quid and here we are in my fop. Can I feel another dio coming on? Hell yeah even though I said I didn't intend to the other day. I think they will go well with the MH-60 if I make it look as though they are being dropped or RTB'd or just gaurding the chopper.

I would never have bought it if I'd seen it in the LMS as they retail for about £40, but I got this one for £5, part built but looks like all the parts are there.
