Tim’s 1/48 Eduard FW 190 A-2

A very good point Tim. Preshade under camo. I've always sprayed all over with the lighter colour and then added the darker pattern and as you say that's a recipe for losing the preshade under the second colour. Never considered your idea but sounds good 👍

It works (sometimes) Jim, though it does need more annoying masking up. I think that aircraft kits were invented to sell more masking tape LOL 😂

Well, basic colours are now on….

Very slight overspray on the bulge below the yellow will be dealt with during detail painting……yellow was easy, pre sprayed with flesh colour first….a trick I learned on the little blokes…..

Quite happy with the mottling for a first time…..the V shaped blob by the tail is deliberate, it’s on the profile pic……I’m also sure later 190s we’re mottled with both the grey and the green, but this one is just shown with green mottling, so that’s all it got….

Details by brush next, then varnish and decals…..then final assembly…..
Cheers all
Tim

That's come out well. Flesh as a primer for yellow - another tip to write in my little black book of stolen ideas.:D

Very nice Tim. You're racing towards the finish line now....

Nick.

Cheers Nick. Yep, it’s moving very quickly at the moment. Usually slows down around decal and varnishing time though.

That's looking really nice Tim. First time I saw a figure painter using a pink undercoat for yellow I thought he'd lost the plot but it works so well.

More undercoat than primer Jim, but I find it works more easily than white because it covers better.

Thanks Mick. I saw it used in a thread on the Lead Adventure forum first, and thought it worth a try. It works well under red as well, though I tend to use Vallejo saddle brown in that case, using flat flesh as the highlights. The transparent nature of the red then means you can overpaint and get the highlights showing through but not turning the paint pink. Mixed with black it also makes a good worn tyre colour……it’s very versatile.

An Eduard profi-pack, probably my favourite kit. Everything needed except glue and paint. Your build is looking great Tim. The paint especially effective.

Cheers Colin. I’d agree on the kit, absolutely top quality. The zero I built from the same stable was as good, or perhaps better. I think they are the gold standard for 1/48 aircraft kits these days.

Slowed down a bit recently. I gloss varnished the airframe with Klear, and got a pebble dashed finish that seemed to be a little water repellent when applying decals. The decals therefore needed many coats of Micro sol to try and get rid of the bubbles…..there is still a little silvering, mostly on the small stencils, but I’ll have to live with it.
I have had the bottle of Klear for a long time, so that’s probably the last time I’ll use it through an airbrush……top satin varnish is now on anyway…..

Next up is some light detail painting and light weathering, then final assembly……getting close now……probably the reveal will be my final update on this thread.
