Ok chaps so as you may have already seen, this has now crossed the finish line in record time for me, only six weeks!

So before I go into my usual summary, I should warn the purists out there that I have a taken historical liberty with the markings but when you see what I have done I hope you will understand why......

So a summary of the kit, finish and other info:
  • Airfix 1/72 Hawker Tempest Mk.V (Series II) Post War A02110
  • Fit generally excellent, although disappointingly for such a new kit some minor flash was evident
  • However, many online reviews/builds comment on how thick the trailing wing edges are. Whilst I'm neither that bothered nor an expert, I suspect they are right. I think this is down to how Airfix have designed the way the wings go together, which also could cause some alignment issues if you're not careful.
  • Airfix have finally introduced a new and much improved RAF pilot.
  • As per my build thread, there are a number of confirmed/possible paint and marking issues, plus other things of note.
  • Paints: Vallejo's Metal Colour, Model Air, Model Colour and possibly some other brands on the pilot.
  • Decals: Mostly kit decals but also aftermarket Xtradecal fuselage roundels and some lettering. The Airfix decals are excellent in all aspects.
  • Varnish: Future for gloss coats and Vallejo Resin Matt for the final coat.
  • Weathering: Flory wash (dark and light dirt) and Vallejo game wash for the exhaust stains.

As I said above the fit is generally excellent and any issues were really my fault. I also have to commend Airfix on the level of detail in places. The undercarriage and wheel wells have some very nice details.

If you go online you will find a number of doom-mongers out there but you should remember that you can find this kit for as cheap as £10 and from a normal viewing distance, it scrubs up very well.

ACW welcome as usual.

And now the pics.......

So first up, the historical liberty I was talking about. As you may recall, I got this as a Secret Santa present from a colleague at work and so I thought it would nice to honour that....I hope you agree.

That is an excellent result Andrew. Really nice paint job. You've certainly nailed the metallic finish.

Cracking job Andrew 🤩

Excellent paint work, not easy with an all metal finish.

Geoff.

Looking lovely Andrew.

Well came out a right little cracker :)
Nice result Andrew, love the 'nose art'
Looking lovely Andrew.

Thank you very much indeed chaps.

Glad you like it, especially given that it's a NMF paint job. I've heard a lot of people struggle with metallic finishes but so far....whilst it's only my second one.....they seem to be turning out ok. Have to say that Vallejo's Metal Color do make it very easy to get right though.

And glad you approve of the nose art...I know it's taking a historical liberty but I wanted to honour the gift. I've now taken it to work and it was very well received.

Richard - you should give one a go....what have you got to lose!?!?!😉

Thanks again chaps!

I saw this 'in the flesh' at the Coventry show yesterday and it's every bit as good as it looks in the photos.

PS Nice to have met up with you again Andy.
