This arrived from John at Scale Model Shop this morning, super service as usual John :)

This is the first of three 1/9 bikes I will be building. My daughter has ordered me the 1/9 WWII Triumph and the Harley Davidson. Looks like I will be painting army green again much sooner than expected

This bike, the Norton 500cc was ridden by Geoff Duke to win the 1951 Senior TT on the Isle of Man within a day or so of my birth. As a teanager I grew up with Norton, BSA and Triumph just as the Japanese bikes invaded and, eventually other than Triumph still going strong in Hinckley Leicestershire, destroyed the British bike manufacturers.

My first 'bike' was a 125cc scooter but, just about every day, I went to the local Norton dealer and drooled over a 750cc Norton Commando. After passing my test, I went into the shop to trade in my scooter and put a deposit on the Commando. The dealer refused to sell it me as he said that it was too big a jump. He probably saved my life but I felt gutted at the time. I still think of that beautiful machine in the window.....

Anyway, this kit has been described in a YouTube video build as 'the worst kit ever'. The moulds date back to 1964 making it 52 years old and, looking at the parts, it looks in better shape than I was when I was 52;)

I don't know, or care, if there are fit issues which I would expect but I do think bike builders have been spoiled by the superbly engineered Tamika bikes. Not a bad thing but I wonder if many younger modellers fail to appreciate the hobby as much as us old timers I am really looking forward to building it just for the pleasure of real modelling again.

The kit has had many re releases but this box art could be a serious contender for the most beautiful kit box ever.

Great looking bike Graham, I am sure you will make a great job of it. I am also of an age that I can remember some of these bikes, great times.

nice looking bike,Graham, will look forward to seeing this one,on the bench, sure
you will do a great job of it,and look forward to the others,:)

Saw that Harley built up as a civilian bike a while ago Graham. It looked very nice too. It was sort of a classic custom/cafe racer, gave me an idea or two...

Been considering doing the Harley as a bike that a soldier took home. Nothing special, mainly civilian lights and simple paint job that sort of thing. Not sure yet as it is an iconic machine as an army vehicle and I don't do much military now so it would make a contrast to the Manx Norton. Certainly not going to attempt to convert the Triumph fiery seeing the absolutely superb build by Marudek

Never used these before but Alclads are getting harder to find so I thought I would give them a go. The Matt Aluminium should be ok for unpolished engine castings with the polished for covers etc. No idea what they are like but I will give them a try. Nothing I have seen yet beats Alclad Chrome. The Vallejo acrylic Metal Colour chrome isn't bad but really it is just a bright silver. Although very thin, you can brush paint small parts and do touch ups with it. I will report back on the AK chrome when I get to it.

Some unbelievable bargains there Peter , I wish i had a recycling shop like that near me!!!

nice looking bike,Graham, will look forward to seeing them all,;)
will be interested to see what the AK,paints are like,
I used the Vallejo one,s annd do find it hard real to see any different in them,
