What did you fly in today?

I once crossed the channel by Hovercraft. It was one of their last services before being scrapped. The funny thing was, it was a flight. We had a flight time and they also handed out those little hot towels like they used to on aircraft. I'm sure there was other 'aircraft' references as well, but it was a long time ago.

i can remember using the hovercraft once on a beer run to france,...what a wonderfully smooth and speedy trip

It was certainly fast. But good god, the noise. It certainly sounded like an old aeroplane.

I flew on one of these last night.Flybe have started a Route direct from my home town airport Southend to Glasgow where im doing contract work for British Airways. They are using Embraer 195's. This has cut my journey time in half as i dont need to get a bus to Stansted now.View attachment 290023

I haven't flown in one of these beasts, but if you have a spare 11,500 Euros burning a hole in your pocket you can book an acrobatic flight in one of these (Minus the armament!) the price doesn't include travel to Russia or accomodation, that price is for the flight only. If you have even more money burning a hole in your pocket you can book an 'edge of space' flight which costs a good few thousand more. The fact this is even possible gives me goosebumps
Sounds to me as though the Russians are strapped for cash, giving pleasure flights in there war birds.

My missus caught a Flybe flight Cardiff to Paris last month, it left 8 hours late due to a lack of crew. Sometimes the bus is quicker :)

I flew on Flybe's inaugural flight from Southend to Glasgow two weeks ago.It was an hour and a half late coming from Prague. Broken APU apparently.

Flew from Southend back to Glasgow on the Embraer 195 again this morning. Only 25 on board. They need to start advertising properly or i fear the route will be dropped. View attachment 290448

Been on a few of those in my time. Had some good ones too. Went out in high seas once, we had past the point of no return and the waves got bigger and bigger.
As you know Hovercraft ride over the water, not through it. So what happens when the wave falls? Yep the whole Hovercraft falls with it. Being a youngster at the time I thought it was a blast....'Old people' where however not having as much fun. People where actually screaming! lol
As an aside, I used to work for the indemnity company that insured them, So we got to go behind the closed doors during a crossing. Great view from the flightdeck and the cargo deck! That was pretty scary. Not a lot have seen it but EVERYTHING is chained down. cars busses lorries. Motorcycles wedged up against the walls with cushions between them and the walls. Now this was a calm crossing but all the vehicles where hopping up and down on their springs like mad.
