Heres the completed entry for this years ‘bought at cosford for under a fiver’ build. The Zvezda kit cost me £4 and is not something i’d normally do but i like things that are a bit unusual. Built out of the box except for the rope for the ballista and the catapult , which was made using bait elastic. What to do with them now though? Well “I have a cunning plan”, I think I’ll bang them on e bay, some wargamer might buy them and I might even get my money back !
Thanks for looking

Just superb Tony!
You have made a reet gud job and no mistake. I love the 'metal work'.

Very neat build(s)
Yet another excellent £5 worth for the Cosford Shelf.

Ron

Hi Tony
Cracking job. Most unusual. Far smaller than I imagined so even more credit to you for such a nice result.
Jim

Top job. Even more so when you see the final picture giving some scale!

Very realistic finish on the wood, and a great plan to move them on.

Looks great. If you want to sell them to gamers they may need basing though, and if you add a few little lads to crew them you may well quadruple your initial outlay....

Stunning work Tony. They really are the DB's. I will keep an eye out for them on Evilbay :thumb2:

So the games guys like things on bases eh? I think ive got a bit of static grass somewhere, if not ive some green grass type stuff on a roll i might use a bit of that . You obviously know what youre talking about Tim , is a simple grass base the best option? Cheers tony

Usually yes, they like them on basis.
To be honest, ancients isn’t my bag, so I can’t really advise further, but look at a couple of on line blogs or sites to get an idea.....”The miniatures page”, also known as TMP would be a good place to start.....also have a look at EBay and see what is up for sale...
Cheers
Tim

They turned out very well Tony.
If they were mine, by now I would be in the workshop figuring out scaling them up and build them in wood.
No evil plan to take over the world, just for fun (and I might be able to flog them to the middle ages museum not far from where I live) lol

Do they actually work?

No , the catapult moves but it would have been a bit of a pain if not virtually impossible to get them to work. The principle seems to be a piece of twisted leather/ sinew which the throwing arm goes through that provides the elastic recoil , in the kit its obviously just a solid piece of plastic . As simon t said it could maybe have been made workable using twisted rubber bands but it would have been a faff , and the ballista was the same principle only two of them and smaller. Cheers tony

Tony, great work and nice to see something very different, as Tim said wargamers like things on bases, but they wouldn't be hard to find and shouldn't cost much.

cheers
Ross

These look fantastic, Tony. I'm sure they will fly out of your hands on eBay!
Like others I didn't realize quite how small they are.
Great work!
Neil
