How much time do you take before surrendering that bit of PE (Pingy etch) to the carpet/vinyl/laminate/shag monster.........
I was 17 minutes last night looking for a part you wouldn't even notice was missing on a build before finding it

we have laminate floor in the spare room where my bench is........i keep a torch so i can get on my hands and knees like CSI when i drop something.......usually find it

Just so you know Karl, there is no real time limit....it boils down to who is going to win the battle.....you or the carpet monster.:rolling:

Depends how important I think it is Karl, there are times I've spent ages crawling around, moving boxes and sweeping the whole floor area. Others where I have a quick look then just carry on.

I quite often spend half a hour or so crawling round with my nose on the carpet and the phone torch on looking for small parts

Generally I don't find them

but......

I can come back to the exact same spot the day after and find the part just sitting there in plain sight

Successful 90% of the time...will spend maximum 1/2 an hour. Only have a small floor mat to catch anything bouncing off the floor, will extend radius until I'm out of the room. Torch light face down panning across the floor like a searchlight on hand and knees works best for me.

Cheers,
Richard

Easiest way to find stuff the carpet monster is playing with is to make/find/buy a replacement part. As soon as you have that in your hot, sticky hands, the carpet monster will drop the original part right under your nose so you can't help but find it.

That happens often too and inevitably the replacement/scratched part will look better than the original so could be a blessing in disguise. :smiling2:

I've posted this story before. A few years ago I was gluing a piece of PE. Got the CA on and "ping". Carefully moved back my chair and shifted the dog from her spot under the bench and set to on hands and knees. Half an hour later no luck so gave up. That evening I was sitting on the settee with the dog watching TV. Stroked the dog and there was the part firmly glued to her ear.

I remember that one Jim. :tears-of-joy:
