Just been to see this movie. Total Hollywood storyline and big on the USA is awesome angle but great fun all the same.

I went to see it on Sunday. Leaving aside the Hollywood nonsense, I really enjoyed it even though I usually steer clear of your typical (so called) 'Blockbuster' films.
The flying sequences were realistic enough without ridiculously over-cgi'd effects. They clearly made an effort to make the film look as good as the original.
For me, the continuity with the original was handled just on the right side of 'cheesiness'.

As you say Nick, they didn't overdo the CGI stuff. This link explains why CGI wasn't too much of an issue.
I watched the film yesterday and did enjoy it. I can't believe the original came out in 1986.
The original is two years older than me!
