I'd been thinking of getting one of those vortex mixers, but didn't fancy the cheapo plastic ones, so I searched for laboratory mixers. Found one for £30, but postage was another £10. Not surprising as it weighs 4 1/2 kg!

Makes less noise than the nail varnish shaker I bought a couple of years ago. The rubber feet it sits on have perished, but they should be easy enough to replace. It's certainly very effective. Now I need to contrapt some kind of elastic strap to hold a paint bottle in the whirly bit so I can get on with something else while it's doing its thing.

A true single speed whirlymix……..bit of a rare bird these days. You don’t need a strap Peter, that thing will mix anything in around a minute. Hold the bottles against the rubber cup Just remember that they can produce friction so mix Vallejo type bottles upside down. The hard plastic top resists friction much better than the soft polythene of the rest of the bottle.

Hi all

So an extremely productive morning and lunchtime......I gave the lawn a quick trim before I scarified it and Junior aerated it ahead of the winter. We then went on a 2.5 mile walk to get out of the house and him off the screen, stopping off at the supermarket for a few bits and pieces.

On the way we also passed the local Age UK book shop where I picked up the book and saw the DVD set at the till, which I've been thinking about for while as I've never seen it.....all in £7 and of course the money has gone to charity - £6 cheaper than a certain streaming site will charge you for the box set!

Really early delivery from postie ( got me out of bed! ) an odd one, this!

From ebay - this is the ICM 1/48 Polikarpov I-16 Model 24................... The seller has added a ROPos Finnish decal sheet & a couple of stickers on the front. ( don't know if ICM approved this! ). The original model is complete with original decals, so I can go with the original markings if I choose.
Cost was <£16 delivered, - nice price :smiling::thumb2:

I am starting to wonder just how much we are allowed to actually answer a post with a genuine comment Ian?!!
It seems rather rude for me to just read something that I particularly like,and then ignore the effort that the poster has made by putting it up?!
Otherwise no-one will bother posting stuff up at all?!!...
Maybe just my opinion,but it seems it's getting a little Draconian to me?!!

Hi all

So I was very restrained at the show, only picking these up.

I had found ok-ish scanned copies online and assumed they were long out of print given the dates but I discovered otherwise yesterday.....turns out the publisher was there today so I saved myself £2 on P&P.

Interesting exercise in advertising your business though.....it was easier to find more expensive second hand ones on various reseller sites than on the manufacturers own site...and so last night I nearly spent a 1/3 more on Kingkit used ones instead!

A second-hand Dragon M2 half-track, already started (that’s what the writing on the lid indicates, BTW ) but this appears to be limited to the engine having been fitted to the chassis and the front wheels have been built.

Hi all

So I have been paying attention to Dave's comments on being patient on eBay auctions and not getting sucked in, and it's finally paid of with this for my Hunters and Hunted collection

Revell did both the old Matchbox kits and their own newer versions from the early 2010s.

Including P&P, the cheapest recent eBay sale was £23.70. There are handful in the mid to high £20s. Most go for between £30 and mid-£40s. I've even seen the old Matchbox ones go for over £50......the highest price I've seen is £80 incl. P&P.

So what did I pay? £24.19 all in..........and the sale was a buy it now from a a charity, so I the money went to a good cause too and I can thus feel free of all guilt!!

The only downside........my wife was in when the parcel arrived.....and it's not a small box! :sad-face:

So going back to my theme of paying stupid sums for kits, over the weekend I watched someone pay £57 incl p&p for this very kit....£33 more than the £24 I paid for it

The engine could be hidden & assembled wheels? What could go wrong?

Exactly, I probably wouldn’t even fit the engine myself except for the bits visible below the chassis. Most of the sprues are still in closed plastic bags, so it’s not like I’ve got to disassemble half the model before I can build it like it’s supposed to be

An ebay purchase <£15 delivered :thumb2: For those unfamiliar with IBG 1/700 - they always come in a massively oversized box! The parts are clean & crisp, and have an individual PE fret, with all the extra detail you could want. Absolutely no need for aftermarket add-ons!

Hi all

So this arrived today for my Mossie build....

It really was very expensive given the price of the kit (excessive delivery charges and VAT were the main cause).

However, I've lost two weeks to my work on the DIY nose and there was no guarantee how much longer it would take and more importantly what quality it would be.

So, given it is such a prominent feature of the plane, I bit the bullet.

It's not something I'm likely to do in the future, or at least think VERY hard about if I do, but if only for my time and sanity it will probably be worth it! That may be a cop-out for some but I don't want to lose the mojo on the build because of the nose.

Not even 10 full days from time of order from California, so no complaints there!

There is a bit of poor moulding on the fuselage attachment points but nothing serious. Initial impressions are very good, plus it's not just the nose. The gun camera and other bits are included too.

I remember having one of these back in the 70's and for a long time I have wanted one. Not sure why but I got one off ebay, even at £25 it's way over priced but I sold a couple of busts so thought I would treat myself.


There aren't many parts so it should be a simple build, simple but fun.

Also,to me,it's surely a stretched,(and bits added to), version of one of my favourite recent aircraft...,...
...namely the Jaguar ?!!...

This time a little less frivolous - some small scale stuff. These are from the British manufacturer Baccus, which look to be equal in quality to GHQ.

this is a selection of WW1 British stuff:

MK IV tanks
60 pdr guns and crews
Division pack - which includes 200+ figures ( infantry, mortars, pioneers, HQ, 18 pdr guns, Mg teams)

enough of a variety for lots of dioramas.

I definitely need some assistance.

Although I do have an optivisor, I also have a pair of spectacles specially for modelling; which are bi-focals. The top part is so I can see the TV, the lower part are magnifying glasses which focus at the distance I hold busts for painting. I took a bust into the optician's to get the right focal length.
