Scale Model Shop

What do people do with their models?

If anyone knows where I can get a decent wall cabinet that is at least 8 inches deep I’d be very interested :tongue-out3:
The shallow ones I have don’t hold tank or aircraft models, just figures……the just aren’t deep enough.
Glass doored kitchen high level units?

No electric there? :tongue-out2:
Sometimes yes, sometimes no…..pretty rural here. I keep a camping stove in the garage to cope with power outages LOL……

Seriously, I don’t like the thick door edges, they stop you seeing the contents…..

Id love a bigger/deeper version of this…

Are any shops near you being refitted Tim? Cabinets like that probably go in the skip. A local estate agent moved offices, and gave away all their furniture and fittings on Facebook.

Don‘t know about shops near me that are refitting Pete, there are hardly any shops near me at all :tongue-out3: I do keep my eye on faceaches for sale section, but not seen anything yet. I did see an absolutely superb display case the other day in an antique shop. It was an old Britains toy soldiers display unit….baize lined, good number of shelves, excelllent detailing, probably from the fifties…..trouble is, it wasn’t for sale:tears-of-joy:

Thanks Karl. I may just swap out the two short ikea floor based Billy bookcases I have for full height glazed ones…I already have one and find it very good. Extra shelves are easy to source as well. Should have bought two more instead of the extra short book case I got when I did the room out originally really :tears-of-joy: .

Strip off usable/recyclable/interesting parts - then say a little prayer, open up the route to Hades with a libation of Sauvignon Blanc, and into the bin they go! (Then ('reluctantly'), party on, and buy some more!)

I couldn't live like that:tired:..........too much effort into each and every one....when I pause at one of the cabinets to glance at my previous builds the memories of what it took to produce each one come flooding back and they evoke a sense of purpose as well as accomplishment. :smiling::thumb2:

COMPLETELY AGREE ...
Each to their own of course, but I don't see the point in putting so much effort into something just to throw it away afterwards?!!
Also, how do you gauge if you're getting better if the older stuff isn't around to compare it to?! ;)

I like to build models because I love the history about them, so to me it makes more sence to display them then to bin them...

I would recommend to all, instead of throwing a model into the trash, put it for sale very cheap or donate it for free, many people like to have a scale model but don't have the skill, time or budget to make them themselves...

There is allready enough trash in de world... ;) Thanks

I do keep a couple of significant 'milestones', and to be honest I have very few examples consigned to Hades (most have a very willing group of recipients!), Some of these 'gissits' have done 'the rounds' from childhood to Uni and beyond (slightly battered though!) - I just run out of space!

Mine mostly end up boxed in the loft for the simple reason, no one (apart from my Grandson) has any interest in my stuff. Some even consider my model making 'a bit strange' at my age.....

So away they go.

Can see your point Andy, but I am not a confident modeller and tend to often think I can better so do not want to see a certain build again. No daft bugger would buy or want one of my efforts lol

These a just a couple I have pics. of......the other two are six footers and are getting full..........must be careful.
That's quite a collection there Rick, lucky for you they are 1/72.
I have built quite a few big dios over the decades and have re-cycled some bases for newer dios, some I've used a couple or three times.
Especially the smaller more non-descript ones. I do like to display any vehicles I build on some sort of base, even if it is just some flat ground.
When I do make that "special" one every now and then they do get a special spot for display. And are frequently and carefully cleaned.

Many, many vehicles and afv's have sunken into the abyss, even a few planes (WW2 era of course).
The scrap boxes are full so nothing goes to waste around here. I do have an attic and a full basement so room is not an issue.

The main problem at the moment is mojo level pretty low, I don't know, it's probably a combination of things
from being tired and old and in pain pretty much of the time, to a general low feeling about word affairs,
to being very busy with the wood business.

The Missus says " why don't you just relax this winter and paint the bedrooms" (4) "tile the guest bathroom floor" what? a four year old
carpet is no longer suitable for people I don't even want in ANY of our bathrooms! Well, maybe the one in the basement (next to the water heater.)

Believe it or not, I have made some significant progress (though not lately) on a very ambitious project for me anyway.
Based on figures (10 I think) mostly wounded....very difficult.
I became very frustrated with them and the hole layout and tossed them on a shelf, I hate figures and don't even know why I started it.
Started building a 'Staghound Mk1" a Tamiya Kit my wife found at a flea market for couple of bucks.
Am about halfway through that and got bored with it:confused:

Was I finished?
Jim.

I think I know what you're going through Jim. Been kinda down in the dumps myself.... I'm trying to stay active at the bench by joining in on the GB's when they come up. Right now I'm struggling with a small base dio. For a just completed Mustang GB....just not much enthusiasm so far. Post up what you have done so far on your Staghound would love to see your progress on it. Oh, almost forgot, my collection is even smaller, it's 1/87 ;)
