OK then guys, I'm gonna look stoopid here...(I know, it's not a surprise!!)..
BUT,as I'm trying to develop my Wingy fing skills, I'd like to know about the panel line type stuff?!!
I'm doing my Beaufighter in early WW2 camo,(DK Green and Brown),
Question is,I was going to get one of those Flory Wash pots that I've heard so much about recently,so what one would be the best to get for said camo scheme please?!
And also,do you put it on AFTER a layer of Gloss varnish as I'm used to?!
ANY thoughts will be much appreciated ;)

Not black, I used dark dirt on my Mustang and it seemed OK over the greys and green.
If I was going over a white and black underside I would have to think a bit.
Flory do an excellent video tutorial too. You can use a matt finish but it grabs the wash a bit more and can stain, which is useful if you want the effect.

Cheers Karl :)
You were actually the first person I saw on here who mentioned them ,and the results you got really pricked my interest ,was it your Mustang?! ... Not sure tbo but whatever it was,it looked very nice :)

Cheers Karl :smiling3:

Yes the Mustang, and also finished a Wildcat using it too. Only have the one pot at the moment but will likely add a few more colours to better suit base colours.

As Karl said i would get the Dark Dirt wash. I have four of them. Light Dirt, Dark Dirt, Black and Rust. Stay clear of the rust. It's pants. But all the others have their uses. The light dirt was used on the black camo on my Bf109 nightfighter and came out very well imho.

99% of the time i use over a gloss varnish with decals added before the varnish. That way you can weather on top of the decals too.

Not used flory washes, but I’ve done it quite a few times with oil paints…..for early war scheme I’d go with a dark brown. In oils I mix burnt umber and black about fifty fifty……for the sky undersides I’d go with indigo. For a silver aircraft paynes grey works well.
I always do the decals and seal them with varnish before panel lining. I also try to get them to sit properly into the panel lines before using the wash. Nothing looks worse to me than a panel line that stops and starts either side of a decal. It just screams “model”.

.... Typical!!
It would appear that word has got out...
... Can't find any "Dark Dirt" anywhere!! :(

Great product to use Andy, the beauty being able to wash it off is its wrong was one of the reasons I got it . Someone on here recommended it .

Andy, I use good old water colors with a dash of washing detergent and is goes on matt or gloss surfaces. The detergent breaks the surface tension and allows the paint to flow and stick to the surface. Black and brown mixture is what I use and after it has dried simply wipe off the excess similar to what you do with Flory washes and seal the same with a layer of varnish of choice.
As mention by the others decal and seal before applying the wash.
The water color wash can be used for oil stains, mud splatter and rain streaks.
Enjoy doing your laundry. :tears-of-joy:

Cheers,
Wabble

Hi Andy, just used the Flory wash on my big F-16 and really pleased with the stuff

Thanks to everyone for all your help and suggestions, it's much appreciated, not to mention "useful". :)
There doesn't seem to be any of the "Dark Dirt" Flory stuff to be had at the moment,so this build will have to pass it up,and I'll try and get some in time for my next Wingy thing :(
Thanks again chaps :)

Ultimate do an equivalent, but don't be tempted, not as good as the Flory stuff

If it’s an itch you really want to scratch now a mix of burnt umber and black oils diluted with Sansodor thinner is very easy to use Andy…..

It's the attraction of the clean up with Flory washes. I've used oils and wasn't sure of the Flory stuff, but it's so much easier. Not that oils are difficult but.....
