Scale Model Shop

Malayan Emergency 1/35 scale.

Just worked my way through this from page one, Richard - what an impressive piece of work!

It's all fabulous, but highpoints for me are the biscuit pack waterfalls and the superbly lifelike bamboo - just so good!

And, as an aside, I love the foodie references - what an amazing place you live when it comes to grub! I've only had mangosteens a few times, but that's a fruit to die for. The person who works out how to grow it in the west (or how to export it in good condition) will surely make a fortune.

Thanks Paul, its taken too long to make and I'm picking up the pace for a June deadline. That's why more has been done lately. The waterfall was an experiment and the bamboo a first for me. Lucky I guess.
Unfortunately have taken the grub for granted but do enjoy it at every opportunity.
Funny how the mangosteen doesn't even resemble the mango in any form with a hard bitter skin and compartmentalised fruit...damn juicy, sour and sweet and it's never enough. The wild ones on my hike in the jungle are usually snapped up by the monkeys before they ripen and grow like apples.
Glad you like the thread.

Cheers,
Wabble

Ohh Richard!!! What a treat this whole build is Buddy. First, the Monkey business, then the banana business and now some great action figures to top it all off!!! We won't even get into your first-rate jungle Botanics. I'm just sitting back and enjoying the whole shebang. Please keep it coming at us!!!...

Oooh thanks Allen...how many beers have you had? Appreciate what you're saying.
So to keep it coming I have worked on the figure further and got their caps and beret on including badges. Only two still need to rework their caps with wire and motion built in.
Firstly one of them is holding his rifle so I had to work on it separately and cutting fingers and thumb to show a better grip...
20230303_150041.jpg
The fish inspector... :smiling6:
20230303_150304.jpg
His buddy next to him...
20230303_150333.jpg
Running helter-skelter forgetting his rifle...
20230303_150356.jpg
The other escapee with a nice crop of hair...
20230303_150428.jpg
The laughing armoured officer with beret...I cast a Hornet head after using up the set for this and North Africa dio.
20230303_150450.jpg
Using two same posed figures at opposite ends...I hope the minor modifications like the full trousers, hand gestures and heads won't be noticeable...
20230303_150509.jpg
Finally the driver with putty to strengthen the armatures gaps.
20230303_150526.jpg
Going to relax and watch some TV.

A little done today...
Fitted the hand and rifle plus added the fruit hitting over the cap on this guy...
20230304_230524.jpg20230304_230555.jpg20230304_230859.jpg
Then I did up the drivers hair and cap...
20230304_230630.jpg
Wrapped the banana trunks with dried leaf shoots which I will seal with varnish to preserve it.
20230304_231156.jpg
Will start adding the bananas after painting them and concentrate on each leaf.

You've certainly got the knack Wabble.
Rick and John R, with that shot hitting the mark the rest will range in so he's nowhere to hide.:tears-of-joy: The monkey sure has the knack too.

My bad habit of revisiting my builds has just happened again. I looked at my Dingo and saw some areas the old Tamiya kit missed and proceeded to scratch these...
One of them was a correction where I had stuck the skirting stowage compartment lid too flat so using sheet plastic to make the slant...
20230309_221432.jpg
The kit didn't mold in the lip around the rear mudguard stowage bin so that was added on both sides with a latch and lock. I scratched a lock too for the skirt bin. A bracket was added as well.
20230309_221528.jpg
The front chassis armoured guard extentions were modified to look the part as it wasn't provided. In doing so I a cidenyally knocked off the two tightening handles and just replaced with stretched sprue.
20230309_221449.jpg
I also removed the white surround of the unit emblems and number plate.

Next I'll be adding canvas straps to hold the opened hatches and some form of stowage. As the journey wouldn't be far, it should be sparse.
Will be concentrating on details from here on since the basic components and poses are all done.

Wabble

More additions to missing detail are the rear lights and indicators...
