This was built for a close friend's dad who served in the Nam.

Sikorsky H-34, USMC
This is the Sikorsky H-34 from Trumpeter in 1/38th scale.

Nice build, bit of a rotary fan myself.
My first front line squadron was A 'commando' squadron. (UK built Wessex Mk5). Solid aircraft, could take a fair bit of abuse!!
Eagle base, Malaya - 1971

Attached to the sqdn was a USMC pilot who had completed a couple of tours in Viet Nam. He was mega twitchy if the cockpit armour wasn't fitted. Story passed down to us mere mechanics was he still carried some shrapnel in his 'but' as you guys say.

Yes, Doug, from what I've heard the Marines really loved and relied on these beasts. Like you said, they could take a beating.

Fantastic build steve , it looks superb . Always loved the look of the H34/ Wessex , proper function over form . The pilots being sat high up there with all the squaddies below always made me smile , must have been like driving a double decker bus from the top deck ! Cheers tony

Thank you, Tony. That's an interesting comparison, never thought of that, lol. We don't have many double deckers up here in the bush so that might be why. :surprised: The visibility of the stick jockys from that vantage point can only be a great advantage, imo.
