I'm having a DSG over Sky phase at the moment. I had lots of time in the Man Cave this weekend and managed to get this one finished off. I started it a few weeks ago and got a bit side tracked with the Gannet. It's a relatively new tool and goes together like a charm. Only complaint if there was one, is the method of securing the folded wing is a bit flimsy; I CA'd it in the end just to be on the safe side.

Pretty much built OOB except for an Eduard PE harness and some resin wheels with treaded tyres that I had in the spares box. I did cut off the rear flaps for the radiator intakes and scratch built some from plasticard, just because the kit ones were too chunky IMO. Painted in Tamiya acrylic, Pre-shaded and a little bit of post shade on some of the upper surface panels but no wash, the panel lines are quite deep so I thought they would offer enough contrast as they are I also wanted a cleaner well maintained look for this one.

I have been trying a different technique during the painting process. It involves stealing lint free cotton pads from SHMBO (they're little square things she uses for makeuppy stuff) and using them dry to buff the paint between coats. it has two advantages. one, it removes any minor contaminants and two, it gives a smoother finish to the finished paint job. I'm happy with the results I'm getting anyway!

I've been waiting to know if this was a good kit as it's the first time I've looked at a spitfire kit and actually wanted it , I was unsure if it was an old kit so thanks Jason not only have you let me know you showed how good it can look , fantastic job and a great paint job :)

Very nice Jason! Interesting that you opted for a wash free look, but it's good without it.

Another Spitfire on my to-do list!

Cheers Alan. Like you I wasn't sure about the kit but it was in my LHS for £9.50 so I couldn't resist. Definitely not disappointed though. Nice moulding and fit. Nearly as good as the new Vb & MK1 kit. The folding wings are all extra parts so no cutting needed. 3 decal options and rockets or auxiliary fuel tanks for under the wings. Would've been happy if I'd spent £17 on it.

Cheers Patrick, glad you like it. Looking at it on the shelf now though, I'm wondering if I should have put a wash on it ! Never mind called it finished so its finished.

That is a lovely clean finish. Paint looks spot on!

Well done.

You've added another kit to my wants list.

Those wings folded look great.

Thanks for looking? Thanks for posting! this build is stunning, really I enjoyed seeing the pictures, my daughter Lucy says its totally real looking ;)

Very nice model Jason. Nice clean paintwork and a spot on canopy.

Excellent build Jason , fantastic paintwork. Im with you on the wash , sometimes its better not to use one if the panel lines are quite deep , as you say the shadow offers enough of a visual contrast , especially on a light colour like Sky or a natural metal. Ive read good things about this kit before and i must admit ive been tempted , it really does make a lovely model . Great build .

p.s. I remember a time when you only made cars!! now youre churning aircraft out like theres a war on!! :D :D cheers tony

Nice clean build and a great paint job as well. Navy aircraft where normally washed down on landing. Sea water; salt in the air and Aluminium. not a good mix.

I believe this kit is a new tool about two years old and yes its lovely I have built two and have one more in the stash.

Very nicely done Jason! The buffing between coats is paying dividends in a super clean debris free finish, keep up the great work! Cheers Trey

Thanks Laurie, I've started dipping them in Klear and giving them a light polish. They really do come up nice.

:D I'm blaming you lot Tony. Still got some cars in a dusty corner of the stash. So much more variety of kit and technique in aircraft though mate so they may be there a while...

Well I was so impressed with your build Jason I've had one put to one side this morning for collection on Saturday :D

Mmmm....sweet build!!

Excellent paintwork, is magnificent and accurate.
