1/48 Dornier Do17Z-2 ICM

Hi Barry
Back at the bench so hopefully your back is better. Filling wing roots is always a pain. It's not just getting a nice finish but rescribing lost detail.

The airframe has progressed and the stabs are now fitted.

I have painted and weathered the components for the wheel wells.

And made a start on the props

I have been working on the engine nacelles.

The engineering is a bit over complicated, needlessly so. First you build a ‘box’ to form the wheel well which incorporates cross struts. Below shows three sides installed with one to go. The fit is fine if tight.

Then you cement the nacelles around the box

Again the fit is Ok, if tight.

I cemented the front first and, when dry, will bring the rear in together to cement.

A fair bit of filling and sanding is going to be needed on the joins.

The engine build up continuing.

It looks as if a fair bit of filling and sanding will be needed around the engine panels.

Panels fitted to the engines. There was some tricky work cutting out a section for the exhaust pipes but apart from that was straight forward enough. There is some filling and sanding though.

Considering you've (from what i can remember) built ZM kits, i find this comment quite funny lol. They are always over engineered, needlessly so.

But Alan, what you describe as over engineering of Zoukei Mura kits is to provide high levels of detail and great fit while offering you options. This kit is over engineered to no purpose, normal detail, normal fit and no options.

I am ready to spray the first black primer coat. I do expect it to show up a few flaws that will need treatment.

The pit was easy to mask off. I fixed the canopies temporarily with Micro Liquid Tape which, when the painting is done, enables them to be easily removed for the fitting of the guns.

The canopies are a perfect fit

The wheel wells were masked in the normal way using blue paper and tape.

I have sprayed some degreaser which I will leave to dry before painting.
