I'M ALIVE!!
Hi guys,
im pleased to report that im back home again and have even nearly completed the project i began before surgery!! (check the under construction section!)
i cant speak highly enough of the staff at the hospital, particularly the HDU, and theatre team.
Although morpheined up to the eyeballs, i was concious just an hr post op. I spent a while living with my parents and returned home yesterday to see how things go. I also had the sutures out of my wound the other day and the healing of that looks good.
Obviously my throat is very swollen and bruised internally and ive got to wear a collar for 6 weeks but im pleased with how things are working out. My larynx is about 2 inches to the right but im hoping thats just swelling. Septmeber 17th im seeing the surgeon for more x-rays and to see how things are progressing.
Ive been doing lots of exercises to restore my right upper body mobility which is very painful, but ive managed to come off all my pain medication and manage with high strength ibuprofen..the oromorph, dihydrocodeine etc did its job but made me feel quite ill and really messed with my body.
The relief when i discovered that i could still move my toes had me in tears. The surgeon told me that when he opened me up the disc looked like it had 'exploded' and apparently there was debris all over my spinal column. He also mentioned that it was one of the worst he'd ever seen as the nucleus had also pushed backwards onto my spinal chord causing my pain and nerve compression!
Its been such a humbling experience and i have such a huge debt of gratitude to everyone. Ive become a blood donor as its the only way i can really give anything back.
Day by day im gradually getting better..
Thank you everyone for your kind and supportive comments, youre a great bunch of lads and its given me a lot of encouragement.
:respect1:
