Hi all;

It's been a while since I added to my 41(F) Squadron in 1/48 project, but at last I've completed a new one. This is the Italeri/Academy Hunter F6/9; you may know of the kit's flaws. First, the cockpit is about 1/72 scale - God knows how they managed that. So, it's replaced partly with Aries resin, and partly with Aeroclub white metal. Next, the horizontal stabilisers are too far back, and need moving forward by about 2.5mm, and the anti-buffet bullet between them is too long, so is shortened by 3mm. The undercarriage is too long, and the wheels too skinny, so all is replaced with Aeroclub white metal. And then, I still need to convert it to a Mk5! This was done by taking off the leading edge 'saw tooth' on the wings, and replacing them with Wolfpack resin 'early Hunter' leading edges. These were pretty poor, and didn't fit too well - lots of sanding, filling and swearing. The tailpipe was swapped with the Aeroclub F4/5 replacement parts to complete the transformation. Decals were from the superb new Flightpath RAF Hunter set. This is a 41(F) sqn Hunter, based at Biggin Hill in 1955.

That looks fantastic, and will go very nice with the rest of your 41 Sqn builds

Very very tidy, I really envy you guys who build and paint in 1/72.

Errrrr - it's 1/48, Scott - the clue is in the title of the post!

Great build and finish Andy, another brilliant 41 Squadron addition to the collection.

Hi Andy

If i was forced to choose between the great models within this collection then I'd say this has to be up amongst the top 3. Absolutely fabulous Hunter everything about it has been done just right.

Great stuff. May need an update shot on this growing collective!!!

Cheers

Beautiful build of a beautiful aircraft Andy. Top marks for the bashing it took to get this kit looking correct too , it sounds like it was an epic battle! great build mate , cheers tony

A really beautiful job of a lovely aeroplane.

I know you put a lot of work into it, but the end certainly justifies the effort.

Cheers

Steve

Paul - you asked for an update on the 41(F) Sqn collective - here it is! Last Sunday, 14 December, I was asked to display them all at the launch of volume 2 of the Squadron's history at the RAF Club in London. It was a bit of a feat, driving into the centre of Central London with 5 boxes/16 models, but the author and publisher were very grateful! The book is called 'Blood, Sweat and Courage' and is by Steve Brew.

Still a few more in the stash to do, and some rare kits to try and find!

Another nice addition to your collection, and it is nice to see the group pics of the whole collection.
