this is the latest release by airfix and I must say it looks a very good kit , plenty of detail in the office and some lovely engraved panel lines.

You get the choice of three spits View attachment 103750

the early 1938 version with the two blade wooden prop View attachment 103751

Osgood Villiers from 602 Squadron View attachment 103752

the 1941 training version this would be a nice paint job

The decal sheet looks very good I might even put the instrument panel on mine as it looks quite good for once :) View attachment 103753

the sprues View attachment 103754

the inside detail looks very good it's a shame most of it gets covered up

There is the option to have the gun bays open as well so it's a big improvement on the last release .

Well there's nothing else to say now until I build it which will probably be in about a years time :D

Nice review Alan! At least Airfix put the IP decal at the edge of the sheet rather than in the middle - Eduard, Revell are you taking note?!

Looks pretty good.Ive still got the new Airfix 1/48 mk5 to build. But I might just have to get one of these as well.

One more for the stash !!

Cheers Alan. Hey, you getting a taste for Spitfires?

not really I'm just very patriotic and although the spitfire is not one of my favourite things it is totally british so it has to be done , airfix and spitfire is like fish and chips :D

Nice review mate. Are the panel lines trench like Airfix type, or have they improved? In other words, is it better than the Tamiya one?

I would say it looks the same apart from two areas , the nose rivets are way too high and there isn't a seperate piece for the nose cover other than those two things there isn't much difference

What's the damage for this kit? I think the mk1 is my favorite spit.
in £s it's 16.99 but I have know idea what that is in NZ dollars Aaron :)

Ok. So the Tamiya one is still the better?

If it wasn't for the nose yeah but the office is better imo
Yeah, but the Tamiya kit has superior fit. You barely need filler. The Airfix Spitfire Mk Vb needs quite a bit of filler at the wings and carburettor intake. However, the Airfix interior detailing does look good, especially the wheel wells

Well I'll find out when I build it , I know the tamiya is a good fit but I thought the panel lines needed to be a bit more defined still a good kit though :)
