I've had no time for modelling for months, but I have a couple of weeks in which I shall attempt this, strictly OOB.

The kit is the absolutely appalling 1960s vintage Ju 88 from Airfix. It has a lot of raised detail, most of which I've sanded off and nothing fits very well. Apart from that it's great. I've done some basic construction and am now wondering what to do with the transparencies which appear to have been made for a different kit and have no sign of framing whatsoever...you've got to love a challenge :)

I will be using the kit decals for A6+HH. Contrary to the instructions this was NOT Werner Baumbach's aircraft but a Ju 88 D-1 W.Nr. 1067 belonging to 1.(F)/120, a reconnaissance unit, and regular mount of Staffelkapitan Hptm. Helmuth Orlowski and Beobachter Oblt. Fritz Heidenreich. This aircraft was destroyed in air attack on the ground at Forus Airfield in 1942.

Cheers

Steve

If anyone can pull it off it is you Steve...hopefully :D

I had this kit and struggled so much it was one reason why I got a hatred of making aircraft.

Nice one steve , im awarding you a bravery gong already for tackling this dog!! I know youll make a decent job of it though , cheers tony

Good luck Steve I'm sure you'll conquer this challenge.

I have the new 1/72 Do17z in the stash probably a much better kit but I'm unsure as to whether I will ever build it.

This may spur me on

Cheers

Nice start Steve, also nice to see you building again, and I'm sure you will well and truly beat this one into submission

Errr...Steve...don't say me, that is one of the kits that I send to you

SORRY!!! I don't know was a problematic kit :(

Don't what your problem is with it, Steve. It seemed fine when I built it. In about 1967. When I was 11. They even made it in a nice light blue plastic so I didn't have to paint the underneath. I probably didn't paint the top either.

Seriously, I'm impressed - I bet you'll do a great job.

Yep, can't beat a good challenging kit, saying that I'm gonna make sure my next ones been reviewed as a "easy kit to put together"

It is Polux. I didn't say so in my post because I was trying to protect the GUILTY :)

Good luck with this - was recently given the Revell Ju 88A-4 from the same era... a bit spartan on detail at the very least! Really looking forward to seeing what you can do with this as some inspiration for me.

That explains a lot. I was really quite confused by your choice !

I actually bought one of these a couple of years ago with the good intentions of bringing it up to date. When I looked at the bits in the box I realised just what a task I had ahead and pretty much put it to the back of the shelf!! I can appreciate what you are doing here Steve and I think you are doing an amazing job already.

Maybe one day I'll pluck up the courage to have another go.......................maybe!

I bought one of these in the doubles set from a charity for my daughter, looks like she'll have her work cut out......she's only seven!

It's not a great fitting kit. However, it can be persuaded, the biggest problem is the clear parts. Anyways, I've got the thing together and have got the underside RLM 65 on.

That's probably it for now as we have all sorts of relatives descending on us this weekend.

Doing a good job Steve. I have an original 1960s Airfix Do217, it too has no canopy framing so it must have been the trend. Decal strips might just be the order of the day.

Removed the masking of the 'splinter' camouflage today. Not too bad, just a couple of tiny touch ups required.

Joe, I'm thinking painted tape or decal for the framing too. Nothing too elaborate, but something that gives a realistic impression of the framing. I'm running out of time! I'm away fro six weeks starting next week :)

Cheers
