Afternoon all

There has been comments about my leaving the site, so thought I'd explain

As some will know the last 2 yrs or so have been truly horrible, Julie's dad passed then mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer plus dementia. Within months of her passing Julie was diagnosed with cancer for the 2nd time. Thank god the tumour has shrunk a lot and is stable, her consultant is more than happy with progress. What has not helped is she had to stop taking her arthritis meds so that's gone into overdrive. She has to use a walker in the house and we bought a electric scooter to help her go out and about. So glueing bits of plastic together has taken a back seat. A few ME flare ups hasn't helped me of course.

Most of my time is spent taking her to the magnificent Velindre cancer hospital, other appointments with arthritis specialists, scans and tests etc. Now a expert with a hoover, cooker and have a degree in air frying and pegging washing out!

So when I do post some small progress the lack of interest is obvious. So wondering why I bother taking the time to post? Do I post every bit i do like some do or for the time being walk away. With all that's going on in my life, the walking away bit seems the best route. Frustrating is the best word I can think of?

I was a lecturer for nearly 25 yrs until ME caused me to retire. I am a huge believer in feedback, never negative. I saw how students really developed when given positive feedback. So getting little or no feedback doesn't do me any favours.

So we are still trying to find a suitable bungalow. When we do I'll have a dedicated modelling room, be so much easier for Julie and hopefully my ship building will increase.

My 88 year old mum got killed crossing the road, my wife had breast cancer and then fell down the stairs breaking her hip.
Been her sole carer through all this, just glad i could be there to hopefully make her life a bit more tolerable
I have chronic Cluster Headaches, might need to google them, but not very pleasant at all.

Sorry, but i don't see why it matters if anyone comments on your progress or not, who do you do it for.
Lots of my posts are in reply to questions, hopefully some help and that's more than enough for me.

I find offering feedback or critiquing someone’s work if they haven’t asked for it is a bit tricky.

It’s so easy to cause offence when none was intended so I tend to avoid and just offer encouragement.

I think if you have a lot of serious life stuff going on modelling becomes irrelevant.

Wishing better things for you and Julie Bob, hope to see you back once you have a bungalow sorted and things are a little easier

Thanks for the update Bob. You have certainly had a terrible few years. Very pleased to hear that Julie is doing ok with regards to her cancer. Modelling and the forum is most definitely not your priority at the moment.
Just stay in touch when and if you have time. You are a valued part of this modelling community.
Just take care, give love and time to Julie and you can be sure your friends here are thinking of you both.

Hi Bob.
Ive only started to drift back after a long time away,I tend to not post much of my work as im lazy and cant be bothered to keep taking progress pics.Sooner do the model before painting and then when finished.My wifes Dad sadly has terminal kidney cancer and wife waiting for elbow replacement at Addenbrookes.What i think is important is when folks give feedback is to thank them as ive seen on other forums where some dont reply.I even attempted a ship the other week Bob!!!,I bought the Airfix HMS Ajax and at model club i cut it down to waterline and John didnt do the deck right.So binned that,Then i bought the Tamiya Rodney and O class destroyer in 1 700th and b destoyers tiny!!! and i buggered that up.Bought the Trumpeter Reknown but saving it till im not so clumsy.I like to encourage others but so many things to comment on would take ages to do.We all have loss of mojo but usually get it back.
Id like to see your warships as i show guys at our club who are ex Senior service.
We can all lean on each other and many do care about others.
Get them ships going thats an order Boatswain.

I have chronic Cluster Headaches,

I had those for about five years after I had shingles but rarely get it now...... Horrible thing..... I always likened it to having a little man in side my skull wanting to get out and every now and then he would start swinging his pick axe


Bob.... I for one miss seeing your work....... I can sympathise with what you're going through, I'm too intimate with that hateful disease cancer and had so many health scares in the last few years (was at doctors on Monday to give blood for six different tests....... That's nearly an arm full! )
I hope you get your bungalow soon, it's made such a huge difference to me

Admire you attacking those very small scales, my eyes would have popped out. But, have a few 1 700. Have the Renown on pre order and Repluse in the cobwebs lol. Have a few RN kits, Warspite, Queen Elizabeth,Hood and recently bought the AA cruiser Niaaid. Very Fire are apparently doing a new 1 350 Hood. Might invest

Many thanks all for the kind words and support, appreciated.

Modelling wise and Tirpitz? About 75% done. But the room was around 40° a few days and all the fan did was blow hot air at me! Didn't bother to attempt spraying due to the dreaded laquer and tip drying!

Bungalow wise, lot about but mainly the classic retirement / downsizing ones or good size but on or close to main rds. So no good for our cats, a big priority is there safety. So after nearly two yrs, the look goes on.

HI BOB YES LIKE the guys have said we will miss you an jen an i hope julie will be ok an could you please send me your email address as my laptop was looked at today by currieys an they could not fix the problem with the email so they found another way for me to do emails but now ive got to type in the email address which im not happy about as i pay them near 10 pound a month for help an im not happy may take it back up there an tell them im not happy with their idea an ask them to have another go at getting my emails goin the normal way that im used to

Hi Bob, really sorry to read how life has dealt you and Julie a rough time.
I think many of us are going through our own ups and downs and making models certainly becomes a luxury.

Heres hoping that things will settle down to some degree of normality for you both and you can return to the hobby.

Hi Bob,
I understand about family being more important than posting. I haven't got the time to create build posts of my work, as much as I'd like to, so I just post pictures of the finished model. Why not give that a try?
