Churchill AVRE Mk. lll

Great work covering up the damage. Some lovely work my friend. Will there be a lot to do on the turret??

Looking good,at least it was salvageable would have been a real shame to see all that work end up in the bin!

Scottie

That really is coming on very, very nicely indeed. Very well done so far.

Super stuff. Great recovery in the deck as well….can’t see the join.

wow, that really is brilliant work Paul .
hope you will have this at the show ?

You certainly are pulling out all the stops with this one, great work so far, even your accidents look good.

Had a good catch up on this Scottie, as expected you have exceeded your usually high standards Sir. :thumb2:

I dropped my soldering iron on to the back deck and managed to melt away one engine cover and damage the surround.
That must have been an OMG moment. I think we rarely get through a kit without at least one of them - we drop it, drop something on it, spill glue on it, loose a very small but imprortant part, draw blood, find a part lurking under the instruction sheet that should have been fitted four stages ago etc etc. The real challenge is getting passed it :tongue-out3:
Looking better and better.

Tim, thanks mate I was lucky that 90% of the damage was to a hatch cover.

The skirts are fitted now I have decided to leave the front sections off to add a bit of interest as I like the look of these with the tracks visible. I will check my sources and see what detail if any needs to be added.

The air boxes have also been fitted the after market PE has a lot of bling for these but didn't really add anything so apart from the mesh I used the kit parts the only addition was the cable hook and a punched nut.

cheers as always

Excuse us Paul .
Jim you mean to say you only have at least one OMG moment during a build ! we here at Race Towers suffer a continuous OMG while building the kit, with every one of your mentioned actions, most repeated .:smiling3:

Paul very neat, and some neat detailing.:thumb2:

Hope it is completed, but its not long enough really to expect it to be.

More likely would be the middle sections missing, the ones just next to the turret. Mud building up could push the plates upward, and that wasn’t a problem for the ones at the front and rear, but the middle sections could jam the turret when that happened, so crews often removed them in muddy conditions. You can also see Churchills with only the rear sections on, so front and middle removed, but this was much rarer on later marks than on the Mk. I and II. Which is not to say it didn’t happen, though.

The build is progressing slowly. The pioneer tools mounts were made from aly cut from a sheet as I managed to loose the PE offerings pinging them across the room. Also one set of flimsies have been added with their PE.

Looking very good there. How did you get the folded-up edges to the strip that holds the hammer under the shovel?

BTW, if you want to show the details of the flimsy rack on the other side, they were often left empty.

Hi Jakko, not sure which bit you mean but I think it's just the result of cutting the strip off of the sheet of aly. I thought I had removed them but they show up in the pictures.

Great minds I was going to leave one empty on the other side of put something else in there.
