My thanks to Neil for hosting the Blooming Mig's Everywhere GB.

I will be building a quirky little kit, namely, the Avis 1/72 Mikoyan MiG-8 (BX 72013):

Avis make a range of quirky or less well-known subjects and some are shown on the reverse of the box:

The parts are moulded in a grey, softish plastic with a lot of flash and seams to clean up. Runner A:

Thanks everybody.

I have made a lot of progress over the past 24 hours.

First thing was to remove the parts from the runners:

Then they were cleaned them up, a process that took a couple of hours:

It was then time to begin assembly. Despite having cleaned up the parts, a lot of fettling is necessary:

The wings need a lot of filling where the fins join the wings and the trailing edges are rather thick and will need some sanding. The wing struts are handed so I marked them with the appropriate red or green ink. Some of the wing locating pins for those were much too long and needed shortening, while the fuselage locating holes for the struts needed drilling out:

A view from the underside. The locating slot for the canards was too narrow and not deep enough so a quick going over with a scalpel sorted that out. As you can see, the port-side wing struts are too short so I may have to drill new locating holes on the wing:

A view from above which shows a large gap where the front of the wing fits the fuselage. However, as the fuselage halves haven't been glued together yet, that gap may well reduce:
