So, this is my second 'proper' attempt at modelling, my previous was a 1:48 Harrier and I have made countless ones when I was younger. Most were just thrown together quickly as I lacked patience, but now I'm a bit older I can (just) about handle taking my time and doing it properly.

I have always had a thing for the Typhoon as I spent a year working on it when I was with BAE. Its an awesome machine, and awesome looking as well in my opinion!

So, its not perfect, but its the best I've managed so far. I really enjoyed building it, its not a strictly factual weapons loadout, as its mainly air-air but with addition of the Paveways as well. I never set out to be 100% accurate, so long as it looks the part I'm happy. This was also my first attempt at weathering. I used a charcoal stick and just dry brushed it on, as the thought of using paint scared me too much! :) . I'm fairly happy with how it turned out really for a first go!

I almost cried last week, as I was taking it out of the cupboard to do some finishing touches and I dropped it! My fiancee thought I had just witnessed someone being killed by the shout that I gave out! Thankfully it just knocked some of the missiles and drop tanks off the pylons, and the seam on the wings cracked. So if you noticed the slightly rough looking seam where the wing meets the fuselage then thats the explanation for it!

Anyway, enough chat, here are the pictures! Any comments or tips welcome! Particularly with regards to the decals, as some I just couldn't seem to get rid of the sheen of the clear bits!

its not to shoddy at all,i like it the cockpit looks good and the weathering is about right, and from what ive read on here about decals you need a glossy area to get the decal to sit right,i cant seem to find anything like the modellers use here, but like i say it looks pretty good to me.my first real build was a shocker(and i posted it in the gallery lol)

Thanks! I did do a gloss coat before applying the decals, but I obviously didn't do it thick enough! With this build every step further I got I was more afraid of ruining it so I was pretty cautious when spraying the clear coats. It has a Tamiya clear flat coat on last.

Looking at some other Typhoon builds I should have blended the rear of the cockpit into the fuselage, but the order I built it would have meant re-painting that section, stupidly the main grey I used was self mixed, meaning getting an exact match mixing a second time was nearly impossible! Still, it's all a learning experience so hopefully can improve on the next one! Just need to decide what to go for now!

Ewan, thats a great looking build! Try some micro sol on the decals it helps a lot. cheers Trey

Very nice job Ewan! Looks great with all the stores on it. Looking forward to the next one, cheers tony

Your Eurofighter looks great Ewan. Well done and welcome back to the hobby! I got one of these nearly complete in the 'in tray' - they're good kits although the intakes can be a bit of a challenge.

Lookng forward to the next model

cheers

Yeah the intakes were a bit of a pain! I've not done the correct painting of them as I think they should be lighter inside, and I attempted smoothing them out inside but it didn't really work! Still, its not really noticeable unless you peer right in!

Look forward to seeing your finished article!

Thanks for all the comments guys! Quite fancy doing an F4 Phantom next, any recommendations on kits?

Your a very clean tidy builder and it shows in the finished product. Very classy

Hi Iwan

your Euro fighter looks amazing, really fantastic job, tell me this did you enjoy the build, as it lookalike you spent a lot of time on this

excellent

Mike

great job Ewan. Sometimes I find I need 2 coats of gloss to get that nice flat surface for decals, also some setting solution helps, micro-sol eg.

Keep up the good work. M

Thanks again everyone!

Mike, I did spend quite a while on the build, it's taken about 9 months in total, but that's because there were periods of no activity at all on it! Hard to say how long actual build time, I really should take note of how long each session is, would be interesting to see! I did really enjoy the build, I find it very relaxing to just take the time and really focus on something like this! Takes the mind off everything else! :) My heart almost stopped though when I dropped it, I swear my life flashed before my eyes! Ha ha!

Michael, il need to give that microsol a try for the next one, thanks!

It looks great Ewan. So the load out may not be accurate - so what, it looks busy. I like the busy look.

I too have recently done the dropped model thing - oh the pain !

Thing is, the loadout is perfectly feasible for the Typhoon, the kit doesn't have mounts for the forward pylons so I had to drill them myself, but it is capable of carrying paveways there. Its just probably not the usual kind of load it would go out with on mission. I much prefer the fully loaded look though as well, looks so much more purposeful! And the amount of choices you have with this kit is unreal, so I've got plenty of weapons to go in the spares box! :)
