This is a little something I started quite some time ago. I fancied a 1:32 Hurricane, but soon discovered options are very limited in this scale. After a bit of research I decided on the 'Fly' offering. I had read the reviews and knew I was in for a bit of a journey with this one ! Forewarned is forearmed, well that's what I thought, but even that didn't quite prepare me for this one.
The plastic is really soft and quite brittle. Worse, is just about every part has a very obvious moulding seam. Every part requiring scraping and sanding. This led to a few breakages along the way, remember, this plastic is brittle.
The thing got slightly delayed as Mr Airfix presented me with a new tool Buccaneer, which just had to be built straight away. I was about to return to this build when the Animal Antics GB popped up, so again, the Hurricane was returned to the shelf.
But finally, it's finished. So here, is what is in the box.
Surface detail is a mix of recessed and raised detail. The raised detail, I actually quite liked as it is a bit more representative of the real thing.
There are some nice details, like the radiator below, there's enough parts there to keep most people happy.
The cockpit doesn't turn out too bad after the PE is added. However, building the below was an indication of how bad things were going to turn out. The location points for the various parts were either non existent or very vague.
However, after a lot of work it turns out alright. Decals were good, clear parts ok, and surprisingly the fuselage was a really good fit. I'm trying to remember if there are any locating pins, I don't think there were - a typical low production thing. Having said that, I'm glad it's finished, as in, out of the way.
Some might remember my last build, the Dolphin, made by Copper State models. I was asked if I recommend CSM, I replied yes, a great kit. Can I recommend Fly ? well, it's certainly not CSM standard. I won't be in a hurry to buy another Fly kit. Having said that, as I mentioned earlier, if you want a 1:32 Hurricane, your options are limited.
Anyway, the finished model is below.

The paints were MRP and the metal bits were Alclad.
