Decided after my first attempt at doing the grass in paint to have another go .



Tomorrow or later, depending on the heat I'll try some TAMIYA XF paints.

Seems from reading about using Mr Hobby as the primer, it will have a sheen, as you will have noticed. There is a Tamiya colour I could spray over this, which is a slightly different brown.
Now need to find the smallest pipette on the market as will only need small amounts of paint, so any ideas please. Been going through pipettes at an alarming rate, is there another method of getting paint out of the bottle using this way?

Just been looking at Amazon, have sent for some glass eye droppers , total content 1 mm, so these should work

Drinking straws work John. You can cut them in half so get twice as many. Put the straw into the paint and then put you finger over the top to seal the tube. You can then transfer the paint. Keep the straw vertical. OK it is not perfect, you need to have the paint jar as close as possible to the airbrush but it's cheap and it works.

I have a good selection of grasses, ground cover plants, little shrubs, etc now, and I tend to mix and match them, so theres some dark, some light, some medium, etc, seems to look ok. Other than that I just add a few dabs of paint or pigments or a wash, etc as a final touch if they need it.

I used to do that Peter, but just wanted to try out using paints to change the overall look .

I reuse my pipettes many many times, my current pair have been on the go for at least a year. Eventually they split and need replacing but I certainly don't use a fresh one each time

I have one that stays perfectly clean, only ever used for dispensing clean thinner, then another for everything else. After use I clean it in a small jam jar filled with lacquer /standard thinner , sucking and squeezing several times to flush it out.

Hi Andy, yes I've one for MR hobby levelling thinners, another for gun cleaner, the glass ones I've recently bought can be cleaned out. I found I was using so many plastic pipettes with different colours, pluss being able to see the amount in the tube, hence the glass ones.

Been using Syringes with a large bore needle for ages to extract/measure paint from jars
Pack of the 5ml size and a selection of needles cost very little from Amazon or Ebay.
They can also be used for glue application such as for canopies and windows

Exactly this. This is identical to what I do. After all, once you have the paint out of the inside of the pipette you can wipe/scrape the stuff off the outside once it’s dry because it doesn’t adhere well to polythene.
