Hobby Boss - P-47D - 1/48 (Steven)

Cracking work Steven. The scribing on the wings was certainly worth the effort. The engines are very nice indeed.

Great work Steven. I love your definition of a quick build. Your dedication to detail might embarrass a few of us OOB builders but I'm really looking forward to the finish.

Thanks Colin 🙏, yes it was supposed to be a quick OOB build to be honnest, just got carried away a little bit... Sure hope no one feels embarrassed, as I like all projects including simple OOB models 🛩 . Thanks for dropping in, cheers

Thanks for the comments,
I’ve glued the engine parts and oil cooler together,

The original engine mount was removed with a small hacksaw…

I glued the engine with 2 part epoxy to the cowling, afterwards I added some more glue to the rest of the cylinders. Although I’ve put an effort in making a completely new engine, most of it will be hidden ofcourse… At least it was fun to do!

I added the machine-guns to the wings, also drilled out the waste gate of the super charger (the kit shows a closed valve).

The canopy is molded in 1 piece, it fitted well but the tail-end had some upward tension and didn't stay in place, so I later had to clamp it down.

Tamiya tape was used to mask the canopy. I look for the contour with a cocktail stick and make the cut with a small blade.

With the masking done I glued it in place with micro kristal klear,

But as I said before I needed to add a clamp to the backside…

Very last minute I decided to replace the plastic machine-guns with metal rods, so I cut them off,
Steven_P47D_069.jpg

I marked the centers with a pointy tool,

And drilled them out, I hope those guns will line up in the end…

Also drilled a hole in the belly for a 2mm steel rod…

If all goes well tomorrow I should be able to add the primer coat…

Thanks for reading, have a nice day!

That is simply stunning work....top notch work. That 3d printing has turned out beautifully.

I have this kit in the stash. Would you be willing to 3d print the same upgrade for me? I'm happy to pay for it and the P&P. No problem if not?
